I understand where you're coming from on this. I'll take a couple of screendumps from the flow simulations I ran when I get to work monday. All the water will come down on the outer ring of the block itself, and then run together through the block.

Thanks a lot! With the experience I have on making waterblocks, I'm pretty sure it's going to perform quite well. It's only gonna cool an E8500 with no OC.

Not really sure about LED's yet, time will tell how the whole design is going to be!

Looking through the project logs on here it seems to me that a lot of people use cnc to cut out parts .... you use the machine to create things , much much better

Also everytime I look at this log I get a Simpsons flashback ....

Gonna start with inexpensive materials like mdf and foam first before I try anything harder like alu. Looking forward to what you make next !

Yeah... It IS different! The problem I would think most people have when starting up cnc without any manual knowledge as such, is exactly the difference between RL and theory. One of my teachers told me back in the days; To become good at cnc, you need to be good at manual. For my part, I truly believe that most of it is in hearing what's going on. Not trying to be a smartass or anything, but I can hear when it's needs more or less rev's and feed. Ofcourse this only applies to materials I have worked with before. When I do titanium, I go a bit slower than I think is good!

Mdf and plastic would probably be a good idea, but I'm sure some of the guys who build their own machines know a lot more about how to get started, than me!

Yeah, you are quite right! But then again, the atom part is just a very small part... There will be more stuff that will pull the build more into physics and math! Maybe even a black hole...

Joke aside, thanks a lot man! Flattering words from people whom I consider some of the best at modding on this page, is truly an honor!

But on a modding note, I promised Jrs77 a couple of screendumps of the flowcharts for the CPU block. As I completely agree with him that having several inlets are ususally a bad idea, I just wanted to show how this will look. And this is easily done by showing the flow charts.

This is just an indication of how it will be, there will of course be water in the whole thing.

Seen from the top, with the aluminum insert:

And from the top, where I've changed the material of the insert from aluminum to PC. Just to show how it will look IRL.

Here you see that the water will flow on the outer ring, and come together at the back. From there, it will all go through the same path, which should result in no "hot spots" (I hope)



That's it for now. I'll try to get further on during the week, but with so many ideas it's hard to choose what to start with!
