My planet. I don't need more than 128Gb, only if it's for storage. I never understand what people use 25x2Tb drives for, I mean how much stuff do people need?

You fall under the 'unless' category, but even then you can pickup small HDDs that are similar in price or cheaper than a 'small' SSD & still large enough to hold a fair bit of data; if you only need a small drive and a higher read/write speed is a bonus, then SSD all the way for sure. As for what we use large drives for; porn, obviously.
There's a shop near me doing 500GB for £32. Quite lucky at the moment! (Not a computer focused shop, so probably hasn't noticed the price increases)

Quite glad i specked and bought my computer before this happened. Only a 1tb spin point but saved some money. Looking to add a 120gb SSD to my system in the new year. Not even looking for a price drop just justifying the spend being after Christmas heh
SSD becomes better value for mone on principle. They were expensive and still are, BUT when the HDD I pay £30 for is now selling for close to £100, I cannot justify paying such an escalated price. Meanwhile, the SSD which I could never justify in the past as it is an 'indulgent' boost to my system, is now selling for the same kind of price as an HDD I would buy. So, pay over the top price for an HDD, or pay the same cash for an SSD and live off small storage space until prices are cheap again. Course I am a minority as I never use much space. The OS, itunes and a couple of games is all I have. I always get 500gb HDDs but in reality never really go beyond 150gb used and even then its because I don't bother deleting old crap off
Same here, I'm on the PC I built for the GF where all the junk happens - word / internet and so on. This is where there is loads of crap stored from the past several years. 750Gb drive, over 600Gb free.
I've done the same as what others have done. I've had 2 external HDDs (1TB & 500GB) that I used when I solely had a laptop but now I've got a desktop, I stupidly only bought 1x 1TB HDD to go inside it and I've nearly filled that up already, I decided to rip out the HDDs from the external closures and shove them in my PC. It'll do until the prices come down to realistic levels again I suppose and they're a damn sight faster than before as well.
I will honestly never understand people that can fill up more than 500GB. For myself when I see that 160GB HDD's or simply HDD's in general start at a similar price than a quality brand 64GB SSD, it totally justifies the purchase of an SSD.
I've been looking for a HDD to add 1TB to a storage server for photographs mainly. I would need another 1TB for back up drive aswell. Currently I have a 1TB drive in my main PC. If I'm to replace it I'd far rather get a low storage SSD that's fast than spend the same amount on another slow HDD that'll end up being half filled when my NAS is up and running. Since the need for central storage is increasing and the longer I wait the more chance of loosing something vital or running out of storage increases, I'm tempted to buy and HP or Dell and strip it. I could upgrade from my athlon x2 to a Sandybridge quad, live on the crappy HP mobo till I plan to OC, get my 1TB drive and can sell what I don't need ie. PSU, cases, old parts.
It's not just about price per GB is it though? If you re-read my post you will see I mention SSDs performance gains, which are quite substantial to any system. So it is a big factor to be considered AS WELL AS price per GB.............. What was it you were saying about people being blind or stupid? And those kind of comments are just not needed
After meetins with WD and Seagate regarding the matter I can confirm that prices have stablised or at least at trimming off. Prices at ditribution level are up on some drives and down on others but the average seems to be about the same. Pricing will not hit normality EVER. If a drive cost £100 it will cost £140 from the day they hit their "cheapest". I would expect 2TB to drop below £100 in around April/May. with 1TB and 500GB dropping to £75 and £50 by that sort of time too. You will see deals crop up at crazy "loss" leader prices over the next couple of weeks with the run up to Christmas where by the company limits you to one drive per order. An example of this is where by 1TB drives have been on sale at around £80 or so on and off over the internets. OcUK for example have 2 lines on "black friday" weekend offers. These lines are the ST31000524AS and the ST500DM002 which are priced exceptionally well given the average price on the web at present.
After all my whinging Aria had two types of 2TB for £80 and £86 on black friday. A Seagate one and the one I got a WD EcoGreen. They also had 64GB Crucial M4's for like £70 so I put one in my basket, browsed for 5 mins and then it was gone from my basket, all sold out I guess
Just so you know, Overclockers are selling 500GB Seagate Barracudas at £48 for today. Nice reprieve (sort of).
You missed the point; I don't care how fast or amazing a 64GB SD is when it'll be filled up within a few months- people who need large amounts of storage aren't going to spend £80 on it when £20-40 extra buys you 15 times more storage. Besides, most modern systems would be using an SSD for the OS & programmes + a large HDD for data storage; hence, an SSD on it's own isn't going to be much use regardless, or not for very long anyway. Thus, you see my point now?...
+1 to that. I'm an SSD fan and would like to have another in the future, but they're not for everybody. If you need (a fun word to use when talking about enthusiast PCs) 500GB+ of storage then SSDs simply aren't a reasonable option. That said, if you're looking for an OS+frequently used programs SSD now is a good time to buy as their value is closer to HDDs.
