I'm in the market for a monitor and have decided I'd like to buy either a Dell U2410 or U2711. Whilst I would prefer to get the U2711, as I have a GTX 570 in my PC I didn't know if that will be sufficient with the increased resolution of the U2711 over the U2410? I'm currently on a 1080p TV that I want to wall mount and get my desk space back
Whether your GPU will or won't be sufficient for any given resolution depends entirely what games/software you'll be running, and there isn't much out there that will bring a 570 to its knees even at the highest resolutions. If you can, go for the U2711 - I went with 24" first, and regretted it for 14 months before finally upgrading to a 30".
The difference in resolution is massive. After using a 27" display on a daily basis, 1920x1080 feels tiny. I wouldn't worry too much about the power, considering that the GTX570 is a powerful card. I'd go for the U2711!
I swear I've read Goodbytes guide(s) all the way through numerous times on multiple different threads. It's very informative and is what's led me to the Dell's. Thanks for the responses the U2711 it is. Anyone have any idea what I should be paying for it? It's £645(ish) on Amazon (where I have a prime account) but if I can save more money it'd be nice Thanks again.
What games you playing? If BF3 you might be pushing your luck with a U2711, if everything else you should be ok.
Mainly Civilization V but also looking at getting Anno 2070 and Skyrim sometime around Christmas. I've tried to play BF3 on my PC but I don't really get on with KB+mouse for shooters, I know sacrilege I really should update my sig....
Thanks for the link this might be worth a look at! That's pretty much the same price as a new U2410. The seller is recommended on these forums as well isnt he? (I think I've seen his eBay shop linked to before) Edit : Sorry for Double Post but quoting two separate posts I find complicated on my phone.
nrg_it is highly recommended on these forums, I haven't seen a bad report about them anywhere Just bear in mind that the warranty is only a year.
Definitely get the 2711. The upgrade in resolution is astonishing, and once you've had a screen of this res, there's no going back.
Definitely the U2711. I only had my one for 2 days and missed it immediately after. People say you can ring Dell on the business side and get reductions in the price of the monitor? So maybe that would be a good way of going about it, if you were expecting to pay around the £600 mark anyway. At least it's got the full warranty and it's from Dell themselves. Not taking away from the eBay link though, as people have said, very good. Just only with a 1 year warranty.
Like pete* said, phone the DELL small business number first. I got my U2711 for £570 delivered that way.
I'll look into the Dell small business route first then as I would prefer a full warranty. Does it not matter that I'm not a business then? Do they not ask for a business name or similar?
Sli wouldn't help with the higher resolution as both cards will be using the same amount of memory . Unless the OP has a 2.5GB version.
Sorry I didn't have the number (or correct term Dell Small Business ). Blogins fixed that though. Haha. But as for that question. I think it's simply a case of just saying "I am a graphic designer." or something showing you could be a small business. I don't remember being asked extra details. You just need to get them down in price if you can. I'm rubbish at the haggling part.
You can exaggerate a little. For instance I have done freelance journalism so I used that excuse to blag my way towards a discount! Use their 'Live Chat' service then they'll phone you to talk about what you want to buy from them. So no call charge need be made!
