Hi Chaps, I need to get a file converted from EPS to HPGL (.PLT) for a little project I'm doing on the kit car. Can anyone help? Ta, GOO
From what I can tell the trouble with this is that PostScript can contain pixel art (a image that consists of pixles, also known as raster images), where as HPGL is a vector based system exclusively. If this is the case converting between the two is basically not going to happen. Your best bet would be to recreate the image in InkScape or Adobe Illustrator.
Maybe worth a try ? http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.47#UniConvertor-based_import_and_export
I'll give it a go, but I wasn't a fan of inkscape last time I used it. You need to install X11 to get it to work...
I have Inkscape on one of my linux VMs so i can give it a go if you want Failing that, this, inkscape and the gubbinz required to run it, in the one folder.
I might take you up on that, as I'm getting nowhere fast. I have the latest version of inkscape, which runs in X11 on a Mac. I load the vector (which I now have in SVG), and then try to export as PLT. Only to be told that: Code: You need to install the UniConvertor software. For GNU/Linux: install the package python-uniconvertor. For Windows: download it from http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name=Products&product=uniconvertor and install into your Inkscape's Python location So I bimble off and download that, and then find out I need the Python Image Library (PIL). So I download than, and try and compile it... And it fails. A bit more googling, and it's off to Fink to get some ports of additional bits and bobs. Package downloaded, hit install - Ah. Leopard only. You need to download the source and and compile if you have Lion... And thats where I lost the will to live. All I want to do is convert a lousy Vector from one format to another - not recompile the entire bloody OS!!!!
So much for macs 'just working' with the obligatory mac jibe out of the way shoot me a PM and i'll see what i can do
Did the conversion work ? Then we can say the only issue here was Inkscape versus Mac , in case of Linux or Windows it would have worked without issues.
It [inkscape] wouldn't play ball on windows and even under linux [where nothing 'just works'] Python [which appeared to be the problem on all platforms] needed beating into submission. As for 'did it work?' I hope so .
It certainly did work: These are .png exports from the engraving CAD program that the company I'm going to get to make these plates uses. I just need to print them out life size and make sure I've got the sizes right and the holes in the right places, and then I'll order them.
Nah, Linux users have different level of feeling pain . Where Windows and OSX users would have given up long time ago, Linux user still fights .
