So I'm finally ready to upgrade my aging system. That said, I already have a nice shiny new 750W Corsair PSU, and I'm looking for advice on motherboards and memory ideally centered around an i5-2500K, though I am open to suggestions. Whats the best bang for the buck, all around versatile setup from this last generation of LGA1155 boards? (Yeah, I need advice. The last architecture I built my gaming rig around was Socket 939/940 and I've been working too much of late to keep up with the times. )
MSI, Asus, or Gigabyte is your best bet. Depends on what features you want for it. I personally like the MSI boards for LGA1155.
Every build I've done with MSI boards has been a real treat. I'd say go for an i5 2500K and a GTX 560 Ti. A budget would be a nice thing to have, then all us nice people here would put a build together for you right quick.
If you don't mind waiting for a couple of months then you could build an ivybridge based system instead.
Ideally I'd spend about $300-350 on mobo and memory. Though between that and an i5 would tap me out for this month so I'd be reusing my video card until I could afford better.
For a great Gen. 3 board, you cant go wrong with the GD80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130610
I love my Asus Gene-Z, its an amazing Z68 board. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-maximus-iv-gene-z-gen3-intel-z68-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-hdmi-micro-atx
