hey all, Im in need of some homeplugs. Can anyone recommend some decent ones at a good price ? budget is really sub £60 i would think but im open. 100mbps + is needed (mainly 2-4GB file transfers) 2x LAN ports would be desirable but not needed as i could use a switch or keep the PS3 wireless. Anyone have any suggestions? as a starting point ive seen these on scan Newlink NL-HP200DL 200mbps - £45 or 200Mbit Twin Pack Homeplugs from Dlink DHP-307AV/B Powerline - £53 thanks in advance SOLVED found some on solwise NET-PL-200-AV-TWIN - £38 + £5 for del. Should be a decent set using the atheros chipset and its 200mpbs + it has QoS
I used generic 85mbps units for media streaming in a new build house. Fine for 16 bit music, wouldn't play 24 bit. No video streaming at all Moved to branded 200mbps units, everything's groovy.
Don't be from what I have ready they tend to be a lot more sensitive and there isn't a standard yet from what I read.
Always bought mine from http://www.homeplugs.co.uk/acatalog/Solwise_HomePlugs.html Good, fast and they post to you by special delivery in the UK. I used to use Devolo powerline adapters but the wiring in my house is a bit odd and I've found from experience that the Solwise adapters seem able to work better / are less finnicky with odd wiring layouts.
I have the Newlink 200mb ones and they work perfectly. Got a good deal on them from the online BT Shop.
My whole house is set up with various Netgear, all 200mps, and they can more than capably stream HD. Gotone four port downstairs for the Sky+ and PS3, one four port upstairs in the office for my PC, Xbox and work stuff, one in our bedroom for Sky+ and WD live TV streamer and one each in the kids rooms, and have no issue with performance over them. Think they may be a little bit more than the £60, but I would recommend them.
Best ones on the market are the Zyxel 500Mbit adaptors. ~£60 for a pair but can realistically deliver 150Mbit throughput. Most 85mbit adaptors struggle to see 8mbit real world throughput and most 200mbit adaptors struggle to see more than about 40-50 mbit real world throughput, if that.
