    Hi everyone!

Let me to introduce my project Noir G5 which is a case mod project of a Powermac G5. ;)
The goal of this project is to make a neat case in black, the color schema for now is black and red which is a common color schema but it choose it because of available of products.

    Todo list:
    [x] Take apart case
[x] Cut hole for new backside
    [x] Make new backside
    [x] Attach new backside
    [x] Attach new motherboard tray
[x] Buy water cooling parts and hardware
    [x] Make radiator stand/holder
[x] Putty the edges of the new backside
[x] Putty the holes on the case side left after removing screw spacers
[x] Sleeve PSU in red and black sleeve
    [x] LCD in the front
[x] Cut hole for the PSU in the shelf
    [x] Clean case for painting
[x] Paint case in black when everything else is finished
[ ] Install water cooling parts and hardware
[-] Make HDD cage - Will use original from the case.
    x = Done
    s = Started

    Hardware for now:
    CPU: Intel i7 2600k
    MB: ASUS Maximus IV Extreme
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4x4GB
    GPU: Sapphire Radeon 7970
    SSD: Samsung 830 128GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB
    PSU: Silverstone Strider Gold 750W

This will be my first water cooled computer, any input would be very helpful. :)
I will use a 240 slim radiator to cool the CPU because space isn't something I've got a lot of.

    Water cooling parts:
    Radiator: EK 240 Radiator
Pump: Laing D5 with EK top
CPU block: EK Waterblocks Supreme HF Acetal
Reservoir: EK Waterblocks Multioption RES X2 150 Basic
    Fittings: Bitspower compression fittings 10/13mm
    Tubing: Tygon R3603
    Fan: Enermax Magma 120

Let's start off with a couple of pictures, I hope you will like this project and I would be happy if you comment with your thoughts about it.

    The case in original.

Started with taking apart the case, it is two assembled parts and with a bit of bending they split up. I marked the back where I was going to cut out the hole for the new motherboard tray I/O which is a Lian-Li one.

The new backside is made in aluminum and have a patterns which will make it a bit different from other PowerMac G5 case mods and it will likely look neat in black.

Because of the space limit in the case I will skip the ODD and have two HDD there instead. I cut out parts for the HDD cage which will be made in acrylic.

Drawn where I was going to be cutting.

Cut-out with a band saw and tested how the parts fit together.

Next update will probably come in a week. I will work on the project when I have time and tools. :cooldude:

Yesterday I worked on the case and the pass-through cable for the power.

The pass-through cable is for the PSU which will be inside the case, I cut a power cable off and took the end part and stripped until I got enough with cable for soldering them to the connectors backside. I used heat shrink on the soldering so it will be harder to accidentally touch the dangerous parts.

On the case I drilled holes for rivets and riveted the new back and motherboard tray on to the case.

Next thing to do will be to putty all the edges on the back so it will look like one piece after I've painted the case. ;)

I've been working with the backside and the cuts there, I've done 5 layer of filler now and sanded it down between every new layer.

I'm not done with it yet because I want it to be so thin you wont even notice that it is a splice there.

Today I ordered water cooling parts from Aquatuning.se

    Bought these parts:
    Bitspower 13/10mm compression fittings
    EK Waterblocks EK-Supreme HF Acetal
    Tubing Tygon R3603 12,7/9,5mm
    Alphacool VPP655
    EK EK Waterblocks EK-D5 Acetal
    EK EK Waterblocks EK-Multioption X2 150 Basic

It will probably take a week or two until I get it for everything wasn't in stock. Got a 15% off because I found the voucher when I got on to the site, always fun to get discounts. :)

I haven't done that much on the project the last couple of weeks because of Christmas. I'm finished with the filler on the backside of the case but I still have to do the front for the USB ports and audio out/in.
Got the water cooling parts but the radiator.

I've also got the motherboard and CPU I've will be using. i7 2600k and ASUS Maximus IV Extreme. :)

I was in the garage yesterday and made holes and a holder for the front I/O. I have a bit sanding left to make it smooth. I used 2 component epoxy for the holder and and they feel secure. The I/O adapter is from a Antec 300.
Hope you like the update. :)

Any updates on this? I want to see what you have planned for the power switch.

Haven't been much work on the project lately, been waiting for stuff and been thinking about how I should do things. My idea right now is to hang the PSU in the top of the case with paracrod. About the hard drive holder I don't know if I should go with the acrylic which I sawed out or if I should use paracord for that too to inhibit vibration but then I need to make a way to easily remove the hard drives.
If anyone have any ideas that about these two problems I would be grateful. :)

A couple of pictures on the radiator and the radiator stand I bought on Chilledpc.co.uk

I will use the power switch from the original case, I don't know about the LED, if it can handle 3,3v which is the standard now (I believe).

I hope you can figure it out!

I use the original power switch, but I had a problem with the light. I can't exactly remember what it was, but either the light was on 24/7 even when the pc was turned off, or I couldn't get the switch to work when the light was on...

So for me the switch works, but no light in it! :)

Oh! I totally forgot about that, thought about earlier but forgot it. :p
I'm gonna work on it next week and try it out to see if it works.
    Thanks for reminding me :)

Today I've been working on the power button + LED. However I wasn't able to make the LED light when the computer was on but I never use it so I suppose I can skip it. :p
If anyone knows a way to do this, I would appreciate it if you told me.

I've been working a bit on the project this weekend. Mostly trying out the best way to paint but also drilled the holes on the dust filters I will use to prevent dust to get into the computer. I use Silverstone SST-FF122 which is dust filters with magnets, I made the holes on them bigger so I can use the screws which holds the radiator to fix the filters to a position without screwing them to the holder.

The parts I've painted as yet.

A sample of the molten edges Paracord technique I will use in this project. Still waiting for all the connectors for the PSU to come.

Self-made PSU cables. Sleeved with Paracord.
    24 pin, 4+4 pin and 6+2 pin.

I still have to make one more 6+2 pin and one cable for SATA and one for 4 pin MOLEX. Still waiting for an answer from Aquatuning because they sent me wrong connectors twice and haven't given me an answer why.

I have all the hardware now for the project, got the Samsung 830 128gb SSD I ordered and the Sapphire HD7970 will probably arrive on Monday.
