Don't SLI your 580. Please don't waste your money. 1.5GB VRAM is about perfect for the power available with a single 580... 2 of them is pointless, you run out of RAM. Would only be worth it if you had 2 3GB 580s.
A 2GB GTX 560ti might be worth a shout, as you can always get a second and get the full benefit of both cards at 2560 x 1440...
No it doesn't it has 1.5GB per GPU just like the GTX580 1.5GB. In the same way a HD6990 doesn't have 4GB of memory.
I just pray that Nvidia has seen what BF3 does to VRAM usage and has acted accordingly. AMD have done the decent thing... I will be very tempted in a 7970 or 2 if the 680 drops with 2GB
Blame the confusion of dual-GPU card VRAM on manufacturers, retailers and (to some degree) reviewers who fail to point out that each GPU has its own VRAM and it's not a shared pool of VRAM. Think of SLI/CrossFireX VRAM usage like RAID1 and HDDs.
So that would be a 3gb 580 or a 7950 or a 7970.... whichever suites your pocket best...assuming no irrational like or dislike regarding the colour the card comes dressed in!
sounds like nvidia is launching the mid and lower range parts first...still dont see it happening by april, maybe a paper launch
I have 3 other rigs I 'service' besides my own. 2 of said rigs have AMD cards, an HD4870 + 5xxx something - dislike regarding colour it aint. Performance/Noise/Heat are the most important things for me but drivers/software are big factors. I would always prefer not to install CCC if I can help it.
has nvidia actually confirmed Keplar this year? not including the little marketing presentation they give with the details of timeframe of GPU cuda cores???
nope...not a thing... most recent "roadmap" i saw showed the low and mid-range chips due mid-year...but how reliable that was...
There is not a dicky bird about keplar on the nvidia forums, not even much threads talking about it, whos to say this isnt just a cleaver marketing bluff for get folk to hold off buying ATI's gear? You would think with something due mid year there would at least be a press release already or a sneak peak. Sounds more like the end of 2012.
Sorry but please don't post dribble like this, it's really misleading. I have two 1.5GB 580s and the performance difference is quite noticeable, to the point where certain settings would be unusable without. I appreciate that you may not have used SLi with them, but you're very wrong. Kepler's flagship isn't due till Q3-4 of 2012 now. The 670Ti is due late march.
I'm becoming increasingly tempted by two or three 7970's, as this Kepler business seems to be dragging on. I need 3GB Vram!
