yeah, it can play crysis, seriously though, what on earth would a typical pc gamer do with one of these, endlessly brag about benchmarks scores ?, thats about how usefull it is....

A pretty great CPU - always nice to see a server-level CPU with benchmarks like these

didnt have a ton of time to read all the article, just glancing at the graphs...why do you have 2x2670's scattered around the charts along with what looks to be a single 2670?

I've just updated this - we did all the testing with two Xeon E5-2670's as we were limited on time in the third party test lab we went to. As a majority of workstations that will opt for this CPU will use dual CPU boards (including the Boston Venom workstation we looked at in the review here) we felt this was the best use of our time.

Y'know, we got a new magazine, new direction, so, is this type of review relevant to the new redefined direction?

By the way - Trinity here I come too

And mostly what these CPUs will be doing is running VMs.
Which they will be bloody awesome at, but still, not much fun unless you're an enterprise geek like me :)

I'm pretty sure Intel won't give two hoots what gamers think of these CPUs.

The vast majority of these CPUs will be running workloads on VMware/Xen/Hyper-V and so on... and they most definitely can't play Crysis (Gaming on Hyper-V is atrocious!)

Protip: If it's gaming you want, Xeons represent pretty bad value. Suffice to say, you're not the target market.

why would you want to game on duel xeons lol its for workstation work

nice price epic performance for that. Already considering this upgrade for my workstation

£5000 is nothing for a workstation they start at about £3k before you even add the GPU and the Top end nvidia gpu is over £3000 ( quadro 6000 6gb ) thats before you even think of sli them for even more crazy performance. 32gb of ram ecc is alot of cash ( £1300 ish corsiar lowest speed)

Last 2 we brought just under 12 months ago was just short of £10k each for the work we are running ( high end video rendering, VM emu ) we are saving a fortune though in time it takes to render ect.
