Awesome update! Did you pull out the balsa core on the pedestal?

 

I noticed that same thing. When I get the reservoir built I'll take pics in my studio under controlled lighting to help achieve the actual appearance.

Thanks for the motivation! I left the balsa core in there for strength, just like the chassis. it adds a lot of rigidity to it, plus its lightweight! Not that it matters since the HDD's, watercooling, TEC chiller, and PSU's will make the thing weigh a few dozen kilos.

 

I've been meaning to ask you what program you run your CFD with? SolidWorks, COMSOL, Ansys, etc.? Also, your CAD?

Thank you. I use SolidWorks 2011/2012 for the CAD work. For the CFD/FEA I use an Ansys extension package for SolidWorks. On the rare occasion I'll use OpenFOAM. But I prefer the Ansys FEA/CFD Engine withe SolidWorks extension as it's all in one.

One of these days I would like to use STAR-CCM+

I'd like some advice from some of the more experienced guys out there. There's a lot going on in my loops, three loops to be exact.

Loop 1: Res --> 2x DDC-1T Pumps --> TEC Chiller --> CPU & MOBO --> Res
Loop 2: Res --> 2x DDC-1T Pumps --> Rad --> GPU's --> Res
Loop 3: 2x DDC-1T Pumps --> TEC's --> Radiator
Loop 3 will be cooling six TEC's/1000watts. 



I am open to thoughts and suggestions.

 

It doesn't matter much cooling-wise, but most here would prefer the pump directly before the cpu block.
Nice rig, and congrats on MOTM nomination.

 

I went pump->rad->CPU in my old, its said this takes any heat the pump adds out. Not sure how i will do this in my new one.

11.0 Gluing the Reservoir Together

Sorry for the long pause between updates. I'm in the middle of starting a new job, so things have been pretty crazy lately. I started gluing together the reservoir now that all the pieces are made, and the the fusion rods are almost done. The fusion rods just need to be cut to size and finished up. I'm really happy with the way the reservoir is turning out.

 

You had to bring that name up; didn't you? I still have dreams that one day Helios and/or P-Cu will be finished... Oh well.


PS: That res looks sick. And as far as loop order goes; only thing that really matters is that pumps are after res so that they're never starved for water.

Am I reading this right that you are planning on using 6 DDC pumps? What in the world for? I don't see the need for that kind of pressure at all. Also, why are you splitting the flow in loop 1 between the CPU and MOBO? Unless you can balance out the restriction in two sides of a parallel loop, you are going to be better off going in series with this. Also, in loop 3, you are going to have a very difficult time getting water into the inlet of that pump with it up higher than the rad like that. Also, how are you going to fill/bleed that loop? You at least need a T-line or something before the pump inlet.

Not six pumps in series; two pumps per loop. After doing some CFD analysis, running two DDC pumps in series has a better flow through the waterblocks due to the high head pressure. I'm still doing some transient thermal analysis to determine an exact flow rate for best cooling efficiency. However, from preliminary studies, dual pumps in series has proven to be the most optimal solution.

Six pumps in series is overkill, even for me.

There will be fill/bleeds, I just haven't drawn them into the diagram.
