So remind me again why we have been waiting for Nvidia Kipper?

Slightly faster than 7970 on some tests and slower on other tests?

    2 or 4gb versions....

Why would I buy a kipper when it's not much faster than current gen?

Is it PCIe 3? No one has mentioned whether it is or not.

Knowing Nvidia it will be priced higher than the competition.

I am hopeful that the introduction of "Kipper" will be a catalyst for AMD to get a bit agressive with their pricing strategy. Obviously for a proper price war to kick off Nvidia also have to play their part.

Yes they will be PCIE 3, as far as I know, same as the 7970 etc. to me the only reason to buy one of the card's, especially Gtx 680's is lower power draw with slightly more performance than a gtx 580 maybe 10-20% (so about the same as a 7970), but tbh I think I might skip Kepler altogether and upgrade when Maxwell is released :thumb:

Well if it has 1536 CUDA cores running at 1000mhz+ and 2GB of vRAM its going to be a hell of a lot faster than a GTX 580.

    So, more competition I guess.

I think I might also skip kipper and wait for maxwell house.

Since I've always been an Nvidia user (apart from one disastrous encounter with ATI), I am wondering if ATI have a working stereoscopic 3d yet? Just been to their website where they show a load of bollocks relating to it but no actual 3d glasses.

Am I to assume there are no actual 3d shutter glasses?

you are correct, there is hardly any point to buy these new cards at the moment.

    GK104 is really a mid-range product.

    wait for GK110 :thumb:

This! I want one of those, hoping the price goes down when the new cards come out.

Ditto, I think we both may have looked mad at the time TG, but it seems like it was quite a sound investment :thumb:

Basically, if you have a GTX 500 series and have a screen resolution 1920x1200 or lower, it's not worth getting Kepler, wait for Maxwell, as the performance increase is not expected to be big.

If you are like me, and have a GTX 260, the Kepler is an excellent upgrade, as it already start struggling a bit in games, especially more so in PC only games.

I will be looking to get something that will be cooler than my gtx 480, have 3gb vram and be happy to max out all games at 2560x1440.

Il wait and see what these kepler cards bring before making my mind up what that will be

Well I'm in the same position as Bdigital - if I want to play BF3 above medium , I'm going to need a new GPU, the 570 just doesn't cut it.

If they really are tripling the CUDA cores, midrange or not, its going to be a screamer.

The software I am working on (clock GPU based on what you are running, with custom overclock/downclock profiles, fully automatic, non-intrusive, using a community supported database to get the latest software. This can help to save battery life on laptops (I gain 1h on my laptop), and reduce system noise on laptops and desktops (big difference on my desktop with my GTX260)), is for Nvidia GPU only. :)

My software is almost done. Expect a release of some kind, this summer.
They are already a few alpha users here on the forum of my software, and based on their feedback, they like it a lot.

Uh, Is this thread not like saying "why buy a 7000 series"? Yeah it will be slightly better than the last generation, that's what happens. Also, what about the people who didn't get the 500 series? If you have the very latest, then don't upgrade. It's a worthwhile upgrade if you thought that about the 500 series.
