I said i wouldn't upgrade...buuuuut it's just so tempting

 

eVGA support changing the cooler. MSI, as far as I am aware do NOT, so if you are likely to consider the warranty, go with eVGA.

There's also their step up plan, but I'm not sure how that works in blighty....

 

FOLDING Performance?

 

Im guessing folding will be awful.

 

Im going to wait until we see some some prices settle and potentially some with higher vram.

Then I will chose between this and the 7970 3gb.

 

I really want to see Sli results!

While I would love to replace my 2x570Gtx's with 2 of these I just can't justify the cost (or can I). Even selling those for £125 each that's still a minimum of £550. Hmmmmmm it is tempting though.

I wonder what the incoming 690 will be priced like?

as an nvidia fanboi, i'm SUPERLY BLOWN AWAY IN AWESOMENESS by these results....


but strangely, i'm even more blown away by the fact it only needs 2x6 power so even my lowly 700W Corsair can handle the fastest card on the planet... wait, maybe i have a 650, not 700. ah whatever. i dont need a 1000W+ monster, that's the point.

 

I've ordered one from Aria (Point of View model at £420). Sounds like an awesome card from this review and others I've read. Can't wait to get it (hopefully tomorrow).

 

I just swapped my old gtx 275s for some gtx 560ti's and ill wait a generation or two before I upgrade.
These cards do kick butt, BUT my 560ti's play BF3 at 50-70fps and thats more than enough for me unless another killer game comes out that forces me to upgrade.

 

Regarding SLI - there'll be an SLI article this summer. It will be big! But we need to update our test rig to Z77 first, so we'll wait until Ivybridge comes out. If it ever does.

Regarding Folding - I'm looking to sort this out next month (if the F@H guys have added in Kepler support). I wouldn't write the GTX 680 2GB off just yet, but the low memory bandwidth could cause issues, yes.

 

When can we expect MSI/Gigabyte/Gainward to release cards with their own custom coolers on them? Currently all the ones I see on Scan are using EVGA's type of cooling and from my past experience they are noisy when going above 50% fan speed.

Well I couldn't help myself. Just ordered a pair of the EVGA models. They should be here tomorrow.

 

Any news on the original GTX680, GK110? That's what I really want.

I know if I go out and buy a current GK104 "680", I'll be miffed when GK110 comes out.

Also, based on the Ivy Bridge previews, I may as well skip upgrading altogether until I can get a sweet Haswell & Maxwell setup...

 

Great review! Just wondering whether the 2GB VRAM is holding the card back in BF3 @ 2560x1600? Cause my 3GB Classifieds will use 2.1GB to 2.4GB VRAM.

Oh BTW, thanks for the Boost...I need to go to the shop and get 1, as it has made me think food!!

Anyhow, I have decided to take the plunge, and use my EVGA StepUp plan, to get the GTX680 2GB.

Still, I can compare it to my 3GB cards, in my VRAM thread, and post up my findings

 

Power wise it is awesome.

My 850 for 2 top end cards is looking good now

 

Scan have just put their EVGA's up 4 quid, but MSI is now in stock!

Still very expensive considering this is actually the GTX 560Ti replacement. The real GTX 580 replacement chip with bigger die, more of everything and wider memory bus is still to come.
