Build Advice Gaming PC - £500 Budget

Hello all!

I'm here seeking advice on a gaming PC that I'm hoping to keep at around £500
So far I've compiled a reasonable list of components but I'm trying to get a better processor for the money, I'm definitely up for overclocking aswell

On a side note I'm also spending another £100 or so on a HD montor, so my resolution is gonna be 1920 by 1080 for gaming =)

So to summarise:

Budget: £500 - £550
Main uses of intended build: Gaming
Parts required:All - total system
Monitor resolution: 1920 x 1080
Storage requirements: 250 - 500 GB
Will you be overclocking: yes
Any motherboard requirements: Wouldn't mind trying to squeeze in a USB 3.0 port or two =)
Extra information about desired system: I'd like the absolute best gaming performance I can get for this money XD - Somewhere around a GTX 560 ti or perhaps even a radeon HD 6950 if I could get it in =p

Does the £500 need to include Windows?

 

I'll let the build expert junkies advise you on the contents of the rig, but for £100 I'd recommend going second hand on the monitor. You should be able to find something in that price range that will be a huge improvement over a cheap no-brand new model.

Also for monitor, the BenQ G2222HDL is probably the best you'll get for ~£100.

yet again you will be stuck using stock cooling until you can gather some more funds, you might be able to get away with a slightly lower wattage PSU in which case your could get and aftermarket cooler or a better case.

 

I'd go for mrMonkeyChunks build. Though £9 over budget it is far superior to the one I did. (I tried to stick rigidly to the budget lol)

 

MrMonkeyChunks build is solid. He's got all the power where it counts, decent RAM, a nice case and a reliable motherboard.

monkey chunks build is good spart from the HDD which really needs changing for a decent 7200 rpm drive. the WD 500GB cavier blue is £60 from scan. The 2.5" 5400rpm will be painfully slow

Also you could drop the case and PSU and grab the coolermaster elite 334U which inlcudes a coolermaster 460W PSU this should still be enough. PSUs only hit best efficiency at 70-80% load anyway.

 

If you can afford it you really should get the hard drive bagpuss suggested, I was just trying to remain as close as possible to the budget.
The 460W PSU should be enough but if you are looking to upgrade in the future it might be worth getting the extra watts.

And undoubtedly that would be better for colours than the BenQ though it is over budget.

Im just giving a second vote to Mrmonkeychunks suggestion seems like the best for the money. I would say look at the bit-tech buyers guide but they seem to have stopped now so are woefully out of date.

still might be usefull for a base idea possibly :/

 

Definately go for a 2500k (unlocked) as mentioned above and 2x4GB 1600Mhz XMS3.
