Would you post some youtube links to your favorite trance tunes for me to listen to? I want to get into trance music a little more. I have always liked it but was more focused on other musical genres until now. I used to listen to Chicane a lot about 10 years ago but I just came across this tune and I now have a huge appetite for trance music.
But on a more serious note I'd say to check out artists like DJ Sammy, Faithless (really hit and miss), Paul Van Dyk, or see if you can get into the older, hardcore stuff (you know: the good electronic music genres) such as FunkerVogt, Icon of Coil, Haujobb, Project Pitchfork, Tumor, or even Pitchshifter. They're quite removed from the likes of ATB, but they do tend to actually be good, which is nice
Trance... haha I drew some parallels with the rave parties from 20 years ago. Thanks, I will check those artists. Listening to Paul Van Dyk now
Have a listen to BT (all good), I think you'll like it http://www.youtube.com/results?sear...761.7942.0.8319.2.2.0.0.0.0.344.430.1j3-1.2.0. (sorry this one is in low quality) Some select music of John Dahlback London Elektricity: Way Out West: Flo Rida: (actually that's dance, but you might like it) Nero: What do you think? Which one you think fits better your taste?
From the above I really like the BT one, that's awesome thanks I will check more of his stuff. Generally I like the old schoolish kind of sound like Robert Miles' old stuff or something like this
I put together some of my faves not long ago. http://www.mixcloud.com/david-gregory/dave-gs-melodic-trance-mix/
I've found a really good monthly pod cast - www.andyace.com Mixes some really good trance, one of my friends who produces music has had his tracks used by this guy aswell
God damn that brought back some memories! Although the Matt Darey remix of Binary Finary was far superior Some of my other favourites from back in the day. Those really haven't aged well, but this. Well, this will be beautiful until long after I'm dead.
Armin Van Buuren - Does the regular "A State of Trance" show/podcast, which you might want to check out! His album 76 is a personal favourite (playlist here): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nx0_LBu-vs&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL1D3B6655B20A663B A Classic: Maybe something a bit older? (Sorry for the poor sound quality): If you like BT's more breakbeat sounds, try this:
This would be MY style of trance. In all seriousness though, I am a fan of Ronald Jenkess, it's Electric Rock, not trance, but still:
If you can get yourself Paul van Dyk at Rosenmontags Rave (2002.02.11) and Godskitchen Journeys, those are some classic mixes.
Newer stuff... R3hab & Swanky Tunes - Maximal Crazy Armin Van Buuren - Orbion --> This track is from Trance Essentials 2012 (All good tracks on that album). Older stuff... Shrink - Nervous Breakdown Red Light District - Did you hear me? --> I especially like the version on Clubbers guide to Ibiza 1998 by Pete Tong & Judge Jules. Ayla - Ayla (DJ Taucher remix) ---> Also from the CGTI '98 set.
I never understood the difference between trance and ambient music - where's the line drawn? Where does this fit in?
Ambient electronica I would say I'd define trance as higher energy, heavy use of string synths, well defined drum loops (Used to be very 808 based, not so much anymore) There are several sub-genres though such as gabber, uplifting, eurotrance, j-pop etc Pretty well defined examples of the genres are on digitally imported, which is an excellent site for electronic music radio.
My personal favourite is the gouryella remix of 1999 -- For me the golden age of trance was around 1998 to around 2002, the newer stuff diverges too much and isn't as good.
Early trance tracks were pretty close to ambient - long, trippy tracks that went on for ages. At some point, it changed to be more like what's already been posted - dance tracks with big anthemic synth melodies. Anyway, oldschool trance:
Some Awesome Tunes posted. Especially my personal Top Trance Tune Veracoche - Carte Blanche. Can't beleive these aren't in the list. and I compiled a list for my Wedding DJ as we were having a rave. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL418E048B87778655 52 tracks although a few aren't Trance.
