The purist in me tells me to dump the fences and the sidebar gadgets -- waste of resources. I need to keep reminding myself I have 16Gb of RAM largely unutilised.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a low overhead system monitor to recommend? Sidebar gadgets are bloat.

 

Rainmeter any use to you dunc? Could be worth a try.

 

Not really wanting to replace the whole shell so it's a bit overkill for my needs, but thanks anyway.

 

That's not windows 8. It's a rainmeter skin.

 

Rainmeter isn't a shell replacement. It just puts different and, in my opinion, better looking gadgets on your desktop. So, if you wanted, you could replace the windows gadgets with some Rainmeter ones while keeping fences. Although personally I would ditch fences also and go for a nice launcher gadget with Rainmeter.

Alternatively, you could use Samurize instead of Rainmeter. That does offer system monitoring although I found it less intuitive to customise multiple gadgets and layouts with Samurize.

You can get skins for both Rainmeter and Samurize that link up with programs like speedfan and Aida64 to display temps on them too since Rainmeter doesn't come with that feature as standard (cannot recall if Samurize does).

I don't think there is a genre label for the Ommnio media player?
PM me the code and I'll have a look.

 

Right hand click on the media player and select the top option (it'll be in bold. That will open the folder where the files for it are. Then, there will be a file called something like "mediaplayer.ini". Open that file. Then, look through the code in that file until you find something like this

That code is for song title, it should be under the heading "[Genre]" or something similar. Set the "Hidden=0" at the end to "Hidden=1". Save and the refresh skin in the rainmeter menu and check if the right thing has been hidden. Else, change it back and try again.

I had a look at that but There doesn't seem o be a Genre label at all.

 

Works better without the white background, though the backgrounds are on rotation, so it's normally visible...
