Holy CRAP, when did the Partridge Family start designing PC's? It looks good, but the colors/pattern remind me of the bus from that old TV show the Partridge Family.
Or...it might remind you of the La Vie Claire bicycle racing team. The common thread is the name of the project.
My memory of art history is trashed. I don't think it was Kandinsky that did the famous pattern you used, but I know vaguely where you got the color scheme. Nice use of plexiglas. I've been cludging bits of scrap together to make a stained glass-thing for some time now but you beat me to the "did it first" position. -Anyway, looks great. Smack talk: Yo mama so fat... have to say i love it, all it needs is Gerrit Reitveld's red and blue chair and a suitable De Stijl table and you'd have an awesome office setup!!
Past winners are disqualified. I try to stay away from the word plexiglas and use acrylic instead. Is it true that all plexiglas is extruded? You're the Prince of Plastic that's why I'm asking. I spent a tremendous amount of time sanding edges to get a perfect fit. I don't have to tell you about time and sanding acrylic do I? @13eightyfour I've seen that chair. Not sure I'm a fan. My butt sure isn't. Could use it to torture people and make meetings end real soon.
And we have a winner! Congrats! I lose the bet because I said no one would ever notice. The idea was the Mondrian design was a way to diminish/integrate the otherwise obvious hole in the side of the case. I bet that no one would ever get past the form to see the actual function. Congrats my friend.
The thing about smack talk threw me off what you were looking to hear. I thought you wanted hate. -Wait. From Bit? Never! Save that for Gizmodo.
I've been planning a slim full (or mid) tower with an exposed CPU heatsink and generally quiet cooling for a while now, so that design element sort of stood out to me. Very nicely done.
No smack-talk at all, as it's gorgeous and expertly executed as usual, man. The word "Plexiglas" is actually the brand-name for it but plexiglass is available in extruded as well as cast. Extruded is poop; cast non-poop. Higher melting temp, stronger, etc. Best for lasercutting. Cast acrylic has a better weight to it. If you route it for instance, the shavings will flake off instead of melt and become this pile of...stuff. Cheaps knows as all about that, as his shop tends to look like a White Christmas when he's working. I see Chemcast brand sheets in the pile there; best in the business as far as I'm concerned; been using their stuff for years!
Thanks Jeremy. I was referred to a company called TAP Plastics and decided to use them. Expensive shipping to Florida but I'm satisfied. The whole Plexiglas/Perspex thing was confusing at first but I'm glad most everyone is using the term acrylic now. Mo' betta
Aw, too slow to play- the exposed heatsink was one of the first things I noticed, very inspired design choice and works perfectly with the Mondrian style. Now you have to make a version using transparent coloured acrylic & internally light it...
Thanks. It actually is transparent...I think....they call it sign grade....I believe. You don't notice it when it is backed up against something. I suppose I could drill a hole from the backside and mount an LED. I don't think that would add much to it. I'm sure the individual squares wouldn't be evenly lit. Interesting thought though.
