In defence of the religious fanatics of the 12th century, they weren't trying to get rid of muslims per se, they just didn't want them to be anywhere around the levant.

To elaborate, in Spain, a lot of these tasty pork products were served to flush out moors who publicly said they had converted to Christianity but secretly still followed Islam. The UK didn't really have a problem with Moorish invaders and had to go overseas to harass Muslims.

We do also have some very fine pork products in the UK though.

As much as I love Gotye's earlier albums (especially Like Drawing Blood), I'm sick of his latest being flogged to death everywhere you turn.

 

I heard this ages ago and instantly fell in love with it. I even repeated it a few hundred times to people, but I didn't know it was from Cheers.

Sidenote though, alcohol doesn't kill brain cells [1, 2]. Chronic alcoholics have no less brain cells (on average) than people who never touched alcohol. It certainly does some kind of damage, but "killing brain cells" is a very innacurate description of the damage it does and the buffalo analogy sadly doesn't hold anymore.

EDIT: Also, the concept of a fast and slow brain cell has no bearing on reality.

I always found this extremely curious about fans of (usually relatively obscure) artists who make a hit. They're always ready to point out that their better songs are the earlier ones and if you just like the hits you don't ... I dunno, deserve to like them or something. I get that you might object to someone calling himself a fan if they're only familiar with the hits, but being sick of it just because it's "everywhere" (whatever that means) is something I don't really get.

This isn't a personal attack by the way, just a comment on the situation, mostly because I'm too tired to work and I'm looking for **** to waste my time on, this thread being at the top of my list.
