I agree with everything you just said! Whilst my two kids are annoying as sin sometimes, I wouldn't swap them for anything (well, maybe a new graphics card ). They take so much time but it doesn't matter as you don't notice your time's gone, it's just filled with other stuff. I keep upgrading my rig, even though I know full well I don't have the time to use it. I think it's mainly me trying to hold on to my favourite hobby lol Or for the materialistic part of me: My IPS231P monitor, Phantom case and soon to be SLId 460s I'd say those were the things that have changed my life the most.
The thread says, "The finer things in life" with no stipulation. Therefore Women, but more specifically, my wife can be considered a finer thing. But if it pleases Sir I would go with Julian and say a nice bottle of Red.

I agree that children are the biggest change in your life and will become the most important thing to you, I haven't had them yet so that change hasn't happened to me. I will be sad though if I stop enjoying the things around me that have brought me pleasure over the years, will I like my keyboards any less once I have children? Of course not but I will have something much more important in my life to spend money on and look after so they will become relatively less important to me. The only thing that I have which could be similar to having children is my girlfriend. She is the most important thing to me and she has changed me life more than anything else or anyone in the last 5 years but she hasn't changed how I enjoy all of my belongings or experiences.
Just to chuck in my two € cents regarding the whole kids thing - I think that perhaps some feel that kids are the very reason adults stop enjoying the finer things in life, because children are so damn expensive.
It's almost certain that when you have your first child you will buy a Logitech K120 and sell all your mechs In all seriousness though I'm sure kids were probably not in the spirit of TSB's post, it's just that she's just turned 1 (on Saturday) and I can't really think about/enjoy much else at the moment. I am getting good at installing stair gates though Oh, and Spec's right.
It's taken you a year to get good at stairgates!? Son, I am disappint lol Also, I don't find my kids particularly expensive. There's not that much extra outlay than what there would be if they didn't exist.
I'm struggling here guys. There seems to be an assumption that its not possible to enjoy family, kids,people and material possessions. I love my wife and son, I love our pet parrot, my material possessios that I regard as finer, such as my armchair are shared with them and enjoyed all the more for it. Much like my love of Japan and related holidays we have taken there. I enjoy my mech keyboard too as it makes the time I can spend playing on my pc more enjoyable. The fact I have a child and wife should not be considered more legitimate than the material enjoyments of someone without those relationships or obligations. I totally agree with this statement and apologise if I've somehow given the impression that family/kids are more important that those material things. It's an entirely subjective things, I'm just giving my response to the question from my perspective that's all. I don't have many nice things these days, but a damn good walk out in nature is one of the finest things available in life if anybody wants a free alternative! Noiz, I have four stair gates now, so that we can lock down various parts of the house. Modular, you might say.

Also for the naysayers, is it not because we are animated about a subject then we wish to express it.

Is it just me or has all this talk of mechanical keyboards only started in the last few months? What's that all about? I've been coming here for 3 years and never saw a single mention of mech keyboards until a month or two ago and all of a sudden they're de rigeuer.
I forgot about good speakers and one's choice in music. There's nothing I enjoy more then getting home and putting on my Microlab FC360's- even if some consider them fairly average- and playing my music at a nice volume. I think there's nothing more beautiful then clarity from your favourite music, and the wonderful listening experience is something I couldn't live without!
This is so, so true. For me it's primarily a Unison Research Unico into a pair of Triangle Celius, but it lifts the music to such staggering new heights. Every time the Wench is away I tell myself I'm going to get back into a game, and every time I just spend the week listening to music.
I must say, nice tissues are quite a delight during a cold. Cheap tissues will often scrape against my nose, leaving it a bit red and sore. More expensive, softer tissues - no such problem.
I'm a man of simple pleasures but heres my small list : Books of all kinds, wither it be a paper book or an e-book nothing beats a good book, but nothing beats a nice new paperback book... new book smell A shreded pork burrito with salsa verdi, tomato salsa, gucamole, sour cream and cheese. Pizza A Cup of Tea Miniatures, I collect all sorts of models and the like and even though its expensive I do enjoy building and painting a box of Warhammer minis My Dog, the happiest animal on the planet. Last but not least spending time with my girlfriend

There's more to life than things.... but things certainly make a difference--not all of which can be bought... So many things... so little time.... Here's a few. 1. A beautifully calibrated, high quality, huge monitor. It makes everything you do a joy... even putting together a powerpoint for work ceases to be something that makes you want to shoot yourself. 2. Walking into your garage and seeing your car gleaming with the fruits of your labour, and exuding that heady smell of carnuba wax and "machine". 3. Building a new PC, going out for a while, then coming back into the room to be hit full in the face with "new PC Smell". 4. The smell of proper coffee.. not instant.. and not STARBUCKS. 5. A nice single malt. 6. Watching the sun set on the summer solstice, looking at the time and seeing 21:48. Stop bitching about the British weather!! Find me anywhere else this for north that's also so temperate. (the flip side to this though, is sunset at winter solstice = 15:45). 7. Turning the key on a big American V8 8. Hearing a Rolls Royce Merlin overhead and saying thank you to The Few that sacrificed everything for our freedom in the summer of 1940. 9. Hearing a Vulcan howl at full throttle and saying thank you to those that kept a ceaseless watch over us during a particularly anus twitching time in the 60s. 10. Looking through a telescope and realising that the photons hitting my retina have been travelling for millions of years before doing so. I could go on all day.... but... 11. The chance to live in a free country while enjoying the above.
