EDIT: If you really want lessons on train etiquette, here's the whole campaign.

8 years it took for Apple to release something to beat it. Back in 2002 I'm pretty sure my MP3 players were still using AA batteries. If MP3 players were around and affordable. I remember still using a CD player back then.

And as for the last picture about the Windows device, just because it does the same as the iPad, doesn't mean they copied it. My phone makes phone calls, which the iPhone did way before my phone was released. I'm guessing Samsung copied them?

The point of the slides was to show the that Apple didn't 'invent' the tablet, they refined it.

That's pretty much their whole business model isn't it? In fairness it works but usually relies on others to invent first so they can refine it...

Not really; people just have short memories. In the beginning, Apple created the Newton. Way ahead of its time in terms of the available technology, it flopped. Palm then begat the PalmPilot, which was a less ambitious PDA more limited in function but more balanced in terms of hardware and cost, and it was a great success. Microsoft then released Windows CE, which tried to cram a conventional desktop GUI on a PDA. It struggled.

In 2002 Microsoft released the Tablet. Like the Newton it was too ambitious for the available hardware. It was too underpowered to run Windows (which made a lousy touch GUI anyway), it was prone to overheating and the battery life was dismal.

What few people know is that the iPad was already on the drawing board when technology suddenly made the smartphone possible. Apple decided get in on the act by releasing the iPhone and iPod Touch, with a GUI that was being designed for the iPad anyway, and that borrowed a lot from Newton. Google Android basically copied it. Then Apple released the iPad, which like the PalmPilot was a concept revisited but with a more limited functionality much better balanced to the available technology.

You missed out Psion and Symbian... The Psion Organiser came out in 1984... I know it's a little apples to oranges (pardon the pun) but still applies imho..

The first Psion was pretty much a glorified calculator. The Psion 3 was basically a tiny laptop. Newton was the first thing resembling a tablet.

    Anyway, moar demotes.
