if you have hosting with a cpanel, they normally have 1 click simple scripts for installing word press into your hosting space. Then you aren't bound by restrictions that you normally get using wordpress.org. I have hosting and several websites, mostly running on wordpress, all from the same hosting.

    Got it :thumb:

Nothing on there yet, but give me time and I'll get something up there ;)

I need a name for my blog, all suggestions are welcome because I'm drawing a blank. Preferably something catchy, to do with custom projects, electronics, cars, computers or all of the above :D

Okay, apparently I'm an idiot and I broke my blog. I changed the name of the folder it was in on my server to take it offline for a couple of days (to edit), and now that I've changed it back, my blog won't load. I get a 404 on the /blog. Anyone got any ideas?

Have you tried pointing the site at the folder again? It might just be unhappy that you have renamed the folder.

It works fine for me, maybe you have a cached version of the blog being down?

Uni, it works fine for me as well. Clear cache, it happens to me occasionally as well.

    Edit: looks good!

You mean you get my blog front page when you visit www.UnicornSystems.co.uk/blog? That's weird, I've cleared my cache and history and it's still not loading for me. I'll try it on my laptop instead.

It's very basic at the moment. I have lots of content that's almost ready to add, but I have a ton of work to do before Thursday so it might have to wait until the weekend or even next week to go up.

    [edit]

I'm not getting it in IE or FF on either my laptop or desktop. What's going on?!

Try shift + F5, refreshes the page and ignores any cache :)

If shift + F5 does not work, it may be being feed to you from your proxy? Has happened to me as well, took a day for me to see my own website!

404 everywhere - can't even get it on my phone with the 3G connection. Are you sure you guys aren't loading a cached version of it? Can you shift + F5 for me to test it?

No proxy server here, must be being caused by my web proxy - but that still wouldn't explain why it doesn't load on my phone with a 3G connection.

Yep, cPanel X and the latest version of Wordpress. Did you get the 404 after you loaded it without the cache? I have no idea what's wrong with it - I changed the folder name before and it worked fine. I may have to reinstall WP

Yeah sure, I'll install it on this desktop. Thanks!

Really? Now I'm super confused :sigh: I remoted into one of my off-site servers and tried loading it from there, still got a 404. I think it's definitely down but I have no idea why. All I did was rename a folder, then change it back!

strange, it is now working on my phone and laptop but not my work pc...

I think it may just be going through DNS migration.

Hmm, possibly DNS then. If it is, I'll know not to do that again! Skype is installing on my workstation at the moment. It's taking a while because I have a dozen programs running and loads of updates downloading and I'm basically over-working both my file server and this box :p

Is there a simple way to take the site offline temporarily to edit articles etc? I know Wordpress allows you to save drafts etc, but I'm talking about editing previously published articles and posts.

Can a few other people test it for me and let me know if it's loading?
