My current monitor connection is via a VGA cable and would like to add another monitor ( vga socket). My motherboard has has an extra hdmi and DVI slot and no graphics card. Please advise of a reliable connection mode.

    1. Is there anythng like a Hdmi to vga cable
    2. or DVI to vga cable
3 Would i need to buy a graphics card

    Thanks

The 3570k can support up to three displays. Just buy a DVI-VGA adaptor. Should cost about £1

Forgot to mention. It is a dvi-d slot and not a normal dvi - will the above recommendation still work

Could it because it is digital signal. Are all lcd monitors digital ?

DVI->D-SUB adapters takes the DVI-A signals and convert them from DVI connector to D-SUB connector without any modifications. DVI-D doesn't have DVI-A connected, so you cannot use that adapter. You need DVI-A or DVI-I (which is DVI-A + DVI-D) for DVI->D-SUB adapters.

    In other words :

DVI->D-SUB adapter needs the red pins, but DVI-D has only the non-red pins connected - take a look :

@OP: What is the reason for not buying a LCD with DVI/HDMI port ? It's not like there is insane price difference between the lowend D-SUB only and lowend D-SUB+DVI displays.

Thanks for breakdown. No particular reason , i was only trying to make use of the spare vga port lcd monitor i have at home and i thought i could somehow convert the dvi-d signal to vga signal
