    Hello all.

    Here's the story.

I have my girlfriends graduation coming up next week and I need new shoes and a shirt.

I already have a dark grey suit. Something like below.

The tie and pocket square will be this colour as it has to match her dress.

I'm not sure if I should opt for brown shoes or black shoes.
I have been looking at these shoes.

My last question is what colour shirt would go with it all?
Everybody will be wearing white shirts but I'd like some think with a bit more kick in it.
    Maybe a baby blue?

    Any advice is appreciated.

I'd say black shoes with grey suit personally.
    Black shirt perhaps?

I have no sense of style though apparently.

Brown shoes or oxblood with grey suit. Black shoes everything else!

A grey suit with a light cyan tie? I'd say a black shirt, but that looks strange given the grey suit. That's a tough one, a white shirt would look good but be boring.

The Cyan tie is difficult. Speaking of which, I need a blue and a red tie, just in case.

The tie colour still isn't set in stone. The dress is actually a few shades greener than the tie I have shown above.

I already have a black shirt so i could always fall back on that.

I wore a white shirt with a teal tie for another graduation mass last year so i wanted to avoid that again.

Matching waistcoat and white shirt? Then you get a completely different look.

What color is the dress? Then we could find something that matches, as cyan is a bit difficult.

    That would look pretty slick.
I was thinking of dressing up in pimp suit but when I metioned it I got 'The look'
I'll get a picture soon. I have one already but the colour doesn't look correct.
    Apparently it's teal.

I was wondering what mankz meant.

And definitely don't wear flannel shorts, knee high purple socks and painted wooden clogs.

I'm afraid I know how to butcher the look like a boss. For those who don't know, the nickname shirty came from the fact that on my first night at university in 2000 there was a formal ball in my halls of residence, and I hadn't packed a suit or indeed any shirts, so I had to go on the scrounge and ended up wearing a pink shirt a multitude of sizes too small for me.

Still, it provided lots of laughs and was a great way to meet dozens of my hall-mates on the first night :hehe:

Brown shoes is a definite (unless you wear a black shirt). Wearing some now with my grey suit. (Ben Sherman slimfit :cooldude:)

With a grey suit you want a contrast, which with a teal tie you're achieving. If you wanted to go for a darker shirt (black) then you'd need to tone the tie down as you'd end up looking ostentatious.

I would stick to white as its your girlfriends graduation and really you want to dress smart for her rather than look like a peacock on her big day.

This is the look you want. Note the good knot and nice collar.

If you want to stand out a bit, do your tie properly in a Windsor knot and make sure you have collar stiffeners in. That way you look like a boss.

    That looks the part.

My suit is a single button suit so I will probably be going for a small collar and skinny tie.

I think I will most definitely go with brown shoes.
