I get the feeling it's not really pushing my GTX 670 at the moment at 2560 by 1440. Think CryENGINE 3 should give it pause for thought. The only game engine that might tempt me to go GTX 670 SLI!
Yeah, I tried the overvolt first - because clearly moar is better than less - but it didn't fix it Only the disapointing underclock worked
got a boat load of those at work just different motherboard and cheapest 460 GPU and we have gotten BF3 running...... don't tell tech.
If I had to underclock my GPU because it was crashing or whatever id try and return it under the sale of goods act for being faulty...if they sell it designed to run at 000Mhz and it doesn't, then its faulty. Buying a car with a 2.2 engine that stalls when u hit 60mph is an example...
Currently running at 1.012V (up from 1.000V) with a 110Mhz OC on the core (825mhz stock) and 200Mhz OC on the memory (1800Mhz stock). Temps top out between 75-77C. Seems stable.
Yeah, but they both work with literally everything lese - AND I've removed the stock fans and fitted EK waterblocks - even if I did want to return them, it would be a total pain in the ass returning them to stock. And I don't play BF3 any more - I'm totally outclassed by every other player - if the game had NPC's they'd own me.
when bf3 first came out my pc crashed a lot at first, underclocking both my cards helped but i later found out the problem was my mobos ioh it was shooting past 140c a quick look on msi forum showed that the cheapo gunk msi used was responsible as the heatsink wanst making good contact with the ioh chip, cleaning it was a night amre as it got rock solid hard but after some arctic silver was put on ive not had a problem and temps are below 70 now. id check your ioh temps might be possible it might be that.
Damnit! It is still not stable. I tested it and it was rock solid for 30 mins, but then as soon as my housemate logged on it died. I've pushed the clocks right back to 675Mhz and 1800Mhz and going to have to do some extensive testing.
Is this your 480 thats under water parge? Thats the prob sometimes with water, its not easy to chop and change gpus!
Initially I had to underclock my soc from 820 to 700 stock, then bump the voltage up to a relatively hefty 1.1v. My 460 was a pre production model and I couldn't change the voltage, so not sure on what volts you'd have to use.
The annoying thing is, its totally stable in furmark and all other games, its just BF3 that it can't handle!
Doesn't BF3 have a thing about overclocked cards? I can't get any sort of decent overclock on my GTX 670 without bf3 locking up. Benchmarks work fine.
It's something that came in with one of the patches i think. one day i was blowing sheet up, my 460 oc'd to 800/1600/4000 runing it remarkably well on high detail. then i started playing dungeon defenders and didn't play bf3 for a while (until sharkens totally ruined the game!), came back to it and poof! crash after crash after crash. nothing else crashes, just bf3. the bar stewards!
I've lowered the clocks to 675/1800 which I believe is the default for 460s. Shame as the 800/2000 I had before provided great performance!
they really are mini beasts. i'd highly recommend them to anyone on a budget, if you can find a mk1 with 256bit mem bus
Ok soooo problem solved..... It wasn't the CPU It wasn't the RAM It wasn't the motherboard It wasn't the PSU It was of course the GPU. The hardware itself is fine, just required a BIOS reflash from the F2 to the F3 version. The F2 BIOS must have had some very bad voltage regulation problems. For those interested, the 430W Corsair Builder series performs like an absolute champ, and seems more than capable of driving the 955/460. I've now got a healthy OC of 800/2000 running on stock volts, and temps max out at 60C.
Ok! Problem was NOT solved, but now it is - this is what I had to do Windows 7/Windows Vista * In Windows 7/Vista go to Start menu. Go to Accessories. Locate the command prompt shortcut and hover mouse over it. Right Click on the shortcut then select Run as Administrator. * In the command prompt type this exactly: bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2500
