http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19424119 Joss Whedon, the awesome director and writer of such hits such as Buffy, Dollhouse and lest we forget his best works of all, Firefly; has been asked to write a new tv series based upon The Avengers universe. This is the best news there has been
Whats the bet it will be awesome, but misunderstood by mainstream tools and end up getting canned after two series?
Two GLORIOUS series is better than no series- by the time Joss retires we will have a large collection of short but amazing TV
yes! excellent news, i'd happily take 2 series. hope they don't play it out of order though like Firefly. ABC should be better than Fox.
dollhouse was pretty poor truth be told. His last big hit for what matters in america ( viewing figures) was buffy. Most channels programs are canned in america if your below 10mil viewers.
I'm a fan of all of Whedon's work. Re-watched Buffy and Angel recently, and both were just as good as I remember. Angel took a while to get going, but was decent, but unfortunately canned just as it was getting really interesting. Dollhouse was another good show. Whedon did well to cram as much as he did into the second series, which allowed us a glimpse of what he had in store for us if it was allowed to continue. Firefly was truly epic, and it is still an absolute travesty that it was canned. Looking forward to this, hope it's allowed to run its course.
I'll give it a bash as it's Whedon, but I'd much prefer if it was his own creation. Although I'll admit I haven't seen the avengers yet I'm not a fan of the whole superhero shovelware thing that's been happening over the last few years.
I try to expalin to people who this "new" director of Avengers is to people and they don't realise actually how good he is because "all he fid was some programmes about vampires and space cowboys meh, mainstreamers!
His best work ever is actually Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog except some people don't get the whole point of musical theatre..... ....which is sad. So much back story, plot and character arc all in 42mins. Neil Patrick Harris Nathan Fillion Felicia Day cameo by Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz from The Big Bang Theory) What's not to like?
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog is top notch! I have an intense dislike of super heroes, though. It'll be interesting to see if Joss Whedon can make something that isn't obnoxious and terrible with them. I suppose if Dr. Horrible's anyting to go by it could be great but I get a feeling it'll be far more serious...
this article pretty much summed it up for me, not really bothered by it to be honest. what i do like tho is that joss has agreed to write the avengers 2 movie
HA! I wouldn't be suprised if they canned it half way through season 1, like they have to some other epically awesome series!
It also appears that the main protagonist will be Thanos, The Mad Titan. He's a beast of a character and a match up between him and the Hulk could be epic. I'll be interested in the series after being amazed at his interpretation of The Avengers. I never did see A Cabin in the Woods, any good btw?
Cabin in the Woods is very clever and very Joss. Took him and Drew Goddard about 3 days to write whilst only talking to each other after long periods and that was only to discuss scenes...etc I hate fanboyism but Joss gives me everything I want to see in a film/series.
The issue is the definition of unwatched. Most series are now shown at same time or with minimal delay in other countries too. But american TV stations don't take that into account. They see that they have too low numbers in their eyes on the american market - the fact that they sold the show to another 30 or 40 countries is irrelevant to them. They see that they got beaten by their biggest opponent in that time slot and bang, show is cancelled.
