Not as strong as the interior shot. It's the lighting on this.. it's too one directional, and doesn't do the front of the case any favours. Also, as the interior is lit, I'd have had the key light on the front panel, not the side, with a fill light around 3 stops down behind the camera.

Awesome thank you pooky i appreciate it. I will have another go and see of i can improve it.

It was done with light from the window at the side, a reflector and some light painting with my phone.

Looking forward to giving it another try

I appreciate you can't move windows around :).. but try to get the main light source on the front, not the side, as the illuminated interior will look better. As you are using daylight, work out the best time of say that gives a good balance between the daylight and interior case lighting.

Don't quite yet have a DSLR, just use my trusty FZ150. Wish I could have got a better view of the sky, the colours were fantastic.

Thank you very much. It looks great with a white or even a black background. Very pleased with it.

I know the general rules of the thread look down upon very over the top post processing, but I had to at least try and make a c*** photo have an interesting subject matter! :D

I would have preferred a little more clockwise rotation to align the verticals with the left third of the image but the manipulation is otherwise fantastic.

Mind sharing how you did it?

I've nothing against this type of work, as it's not trying to rescue a **** photograph at all, even if that was your initial intention. It's creating a piece of artwork with mixed media. Technically, I would suggest that this is no longer a photograph however, as so much work has been done that there's not really much left of the original image, and it has changed so radically that it is now something else entirely.
    I like it.. a lot.

Thanks, that means an awful lot!

I couldn't think where else to put it without making a dedicated thread. I didn't want to do this as this is the only one that I've done so far. I understand it's no longer photographically correct. :)

I like it too... looks like it's from a highly stylised graphic novel. It owns.

A friend shared this photo on facebook today - I'm not normally a fan of overdone HDR but this one really struck me - no idea why!

That's a beautiful piece! I wouldn't call it overdone. The movement of the sky isn't exaggerated, nor is the lighting in my opinion. I definitely think they've got it right!

As for my piece, I can't retrace the steps in Photoshop, but it basically goes like this:
Use curves to curve the lighting closer to blacks.
Increase the exposure and saturation slightly.
Spend a few nights with the dodge and burn tool.
    Add sky.
Add anti- capitalist graffiti in the window and add gas mask and bag to person. Saturate to draw eye to the subject matter.
Render rain in another layer and add over the image.
Have a final check of lighting and levels, and you're done!
