Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with 50GB (48?) of free Dropbox Storage for a year. Demo handsets that go into phone shops have this offer on them also... ...What's to stop someone from doing this? Hop on a demo handset in a store, couple of minutes later you've paired it up, got the storage then unpaired it. Not sure of the legality of that, does seem a tad too sly.
In all fairness there is nothing to stop anyone doing this. I know several friends who have done this. The only thing i don't know is if the handset only lets one person do it. As if so then 9/10 most demo handsets will have already been done by the staff
It might have said "no purchase necessary" - wouldn't that cover you? haha. Nah I've honestly no idea, but might be worth a shot. I'm guessing some staff won't have clocked it/don't use/don't have any idea what dropbox is. Oh and yeah meant 2 years >_<
HTC have also started giving out dropbox storage with their models. Models with HTC Sense 4.1 get 25gig for two years. Sense 4.0 gets something also, can't remember how much though. I get the feeling it is becoming quite a common thing amongst handset makers tbh.
Yeah HTC is 25GB - I only mentioned Samsung because I think you'd only get to have one promotion on at a time - but I could be wrong! Yeah saves them from developing their own massive cloud infrastructure - yet competes with some of the stuff iCloud has with a Google Sync + G Drive + Dropbox combo.
As nice as Dropbox is, it's just too expensive when compared to similar products. I opted for SkyDrive as my cloud storage service as it gave me 50GB of additional space for £16/year- the closest Dropbox comes is doing 100GB for ~£62. Given that Google Drive is also half the price of Dropbox, it's hard to see any incentive to pick it over either of them.
It is listed in my dropbox as "HTC Sense 4.0 promotion", so I don't see a reason why someone shouldn't, in theory, be able to activate a Samsung promotion also. And it doesn't say in their terms and conditions about the Samsung offer that it can't be used in conjunction with any other promotions. So, buy two several hundred pound phones, and you've got 75gig of free storage for two years... Bargain right?
