Planning on upgrading my graphics card at the end of this week and I am going to buy a higher model so it will last me a few years like my 5850 did. Two options I have found are the following: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-...dr5-gpu-1097mhz-boost-1163mhz-cores-1536-2x-d and http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-...3072mb-gddr5-5600mhz-memory-mini-dp-x4-dvi-x2 Which is going to be better? I only have a 1920 x 1080 monitor but who knows, that might change soon. The main thing tempting me towards AMD is the free games but if Nvidia can be justified then I'm happy to hear why. Thanks in advance, Wiry
I was originally considering a 7950 but I don't want to spend that amount of money that might not last longer than 3 years. I'll have a think about it.
I can really spend anything upto £400 but I honestly don't see the point in me upgrading from a 5850 --> 7850 unless the performance difference is huge.
Here's your answer. The performance increase will vary depending on what you play, but if you are looking to double your frame rate then you will indeed be looking at the 79XX or 670. Think about Crossfire as an option too.
I am currently using the MSI 7970 and it is pretty insane. I was playing Warz/Dayz, Arkham City and BF3 on ultra setting without problems with frame drops or anything. The temperatures remain solidly low on roughly 30-50% load. Make sure you download the 12.11 driver instead of the new beta driver from catalyst as there are a few bugs.
680 is a great card wether its worth the price premium over a 670 is questionable. 7970 ghz edition is also a great card Stick to EVGA on Nvidia side ( If you buy the 5 year warranty you get it replaced no questions asked) Stick to Saphire or Gigabyte ( Msi has supposeably been editing the Power settings on there cards to get higher overclocks) My personal Choice was a 680 EVGA Card x2 but there was no ghz 7970 or a 670 out at that time.
Right; I've heard good stuff about EVGA and their service. So I am very tempted to get this card; "EVGA GeForce GTX 670 Cheesecake Signature 2 NVIDIA Graphics Card - 2GB" But now my decision is based on whether I get that card or an AMD equivalent WITH the free games!?
I have that very card, it's awesome. Damn near silent, frugal with power and huge grunt. Also, everyone knows cheesecake is delicious
It's a Bit-tech thing - if you type F.T.W. without the dots it'll change it to cheesecake, because cheesecake is the staple diet of Bit.
Good choice. The F T W is an excellent card, and EVGA's warranties and customer service treat you like an adult.
Just one last question. Is it the best card around it's price? I think i'll go nvidia this time thus my reason in picking the 670. I do like the sound of EVGA. Also are the dvi's on the card Dual-Link?
I think it is the best 670 for the price. It'll definitely be Dual-Link - my reference EVGA 670 is, so there's little chance on them skimping on features like on on a higher end model.
