Hi All, Does anyone know of a company that does a function to copy straight from a memory card/stick to an external USB hard drive? I have a NAS drive which has a copy/sync function where you can plug in a stick and it copies everything across, but can't find a USB drive to do it... Any help would be appreciated! Rich
Is it a USB memory stick or a memory card (SD/CF/XD etc) that you want to copy from? I've seen devices to copy memory cards but they weren't cheap...
yeah will be memory cards, but could use a converter if the device takes USB? but yeah, auto back up without a PC really is what i'm after. Thought they'd be a cheap option out there somewhere, my NAS was cheapo fantasico and has it built in...!
Never seen one that takes a normal USB input... the memory card types are quite specialist as only photographers would need one. http://www.memorykickusa.com/ProductsSi.html http://www.digitalfoci.com/photo_safe.html http://www.nextodi.com/ http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive-COLORSPACE-UDMA2-p/hdu2-000.htm http://secure.mm5server.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=WD&Category_Code=FlashPac
You could build some thing that does this with a Raspberry Pi or similar. The trick to doing this is you can't really use any thing less than a full operating system to do this as it needs drivers for all the things you could plug into it. So prior to devices like the Raspberry Pi you would end up spending quite allot on hardware for not much functionality.
A Pi and an SSD would be a killer combo, super small and not prone to shock damage like a traditional HDD.
