WASD caps are quite thin though, they let quite alot of light through - I mean, not like the caps that are made for it do, as they let light through the letter legend, but the WASD keys do let light through.

You dont need a full set of keys though do you? You can get half clear alpha keys on ebay i think, im on site at the minute but I will check later when I back in the office.

I'd still get in touch with qpad, but you might find that once you add on a replacement set of keycaps it'd be more that just buying a new board... Not that I'm saying qpad's caps are the same quality as others but on ebay (Seller qtan5370 as I'm not sure about posting ebay links) a set of keycaps (just the alpha keys) is ~$40

I am thinking of a full set - looking at German layouts, a lot of symbols are shown on different keys. The only alpha keys that are different are the Y & Z - I suppose it's too much to expect that they can just be swapped around?

The bottom modifiers looked ok, other than the CTRL keys being called something else, and I think the top number keys have different alternate symbols. There are probably more differences, but those are the ones that stood out.

I have just sent an email to QPAD, we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Afraid so - they'll be different profiles (heights) and so will stick out like a sore thumb (literally) (apart from the sore bit)

I thought that might be the case. :sigh:

I'm going buy the keyboard anyway - I've had a chat with him, and explained the problem, and we've come to an arrangement - £30 plus a 160GB laptop HDD I have spare. That'll take some of the pain out of eventually buying replacement caps.

That's a pretty good deal. If you don't mind not having backlight legend, get some nice thick Cherry keys. They look nice on backlight with an underglow effect which is a bit more subtle and it is one of the easiest source for GB layout.

Please explain the difference to a mech keyboard dullard. :)

Do you mean there are cherry mx compatible key caps and Cherry key caps?

Why am I suddenly failing at typing on blues? I feel like breaking my fingers in a fit of rage.

Cherry profile keycaps aren't as high as OEM keycaps. They are just less tall. and by thick - he means the actually thickness of the plastic the caps are made from is thick. Cherry profile is more desirable than oem (SP, or signature plastics, make gb caps are nearly cherry profile, ie shorter than oem) - thicker keys are just nicer to type on.

Potentially you are just failing at typing? I haven't found a specific switch makes me better or worse at typing its just a different experience. But I think I learnt to type before you were born :p

Right there is Cherry brand which is in my opinion some of the highest quality keycap available. They are thick and have a bit lower height than the type that come on most other brands. They currently only use PBT and POM plastic which is much more wear resistant than the ABS found on most other brands.

Thanks for the info guys, it's all helping.

Now, can you recommend places to buy from? Not including feebay. ;)

[edit] just collected it - typing on it now. :D
I've replaced Z & Y with the orange caps for now - it's marginally less confusing.

ebay, taobao and private sale/trade on forums is the way most people get Cherry caps. Buying new keyboard from retail isn't as cost effective obviously.

    http://keycapsdirect.com/marketplace.php

You can get a partial set there of lazered cherry keycaps - does all the alpha, punctuation/symbals and num row - but is for ansi not iso I believe so you wouldn't get the \ by z and the @ will be in the wrong place and you won't have an £ (legends anyway).

    looks like...

I ordered a Cooler Master Storm Quickfire Rapid with blacks last night to go in my new build. I have one of those shiny, black acrylic cases to put it in when the package arrives. I'm going to be added some decoration to that case as well. Will share pics when it all gets going.

Looks like the CM Storm Quickfire Pro uses the same key layout as the MK-85.

Would I be correct in assuming that Coolermaster won't cough up keysets either?
