back when I first saw this build, I was a non member but I was already hooked then... then I forgot to book mark it and I lost sight of this baby till Bit-Tech was rounding up builds for the MOTY... I am extremely happy that I found this again XD man the effort you put into it is outstanding, and Ill have to put it that you deserve the MOTY award bro

 

Rooting for you in the Mod of the Year. There's loads of great mods in the list no doubt. But I think yours or Attila's Builds are just on a different level.

Im really glad you found it againl. I've done that aswell, forgetting to subscribe and loosing track of projects that you just see the start of and then don't find or recognise when they begin to take shape. But thats when MOTY saves the day.

First of all.. thank you for the MOTY nomination. There is some serious projects included this year and im honoured to be amongst them.

I found some images that I had forgotten and that I took a while ago when testing the system. I borrowed a thermal camera from work and took some shots of the system after it had been running for about 4hours. I wanted to see if the heat disippation worked as intended.

These pictures are straight from the camera. Im sorry for the poor resolution but these cameras don't come cheap and the price goes hand in hand with the resolution. It only detects heat so the difference in colours is not caused by reflections of light but deviations of surface temperature. However I didn't realise that I could fix the temperature span so thats why some areas have different colour on different pictures.

I was most curious to see if the heatpipe that is pressed onto the backside of the lid actually was working. And here you can see a noticeable hotspot on the lower part of the lid, so yes, it works.


It looks like the 1UP vents works aswell as you can see a red "trail" from the hot air above the vents.






It's pretty easy to see that the top of the mainboard heats up the most and I would guess the RAMs are the main reason for this. So it was a good decision to place the biggest airopening here.



I like how you can see the hotspots on the table where the case has been standing.


And the last picture shows the front. Here you can see there is a hotspot on the top right corner but this was pretty expected since it's on the right side that the heatpipes are connected.




And to sum it up. Ir cameras are really fun to play with. I especially like how you can basically "travel in time" with it by walking the corridors aiming the camera at the floor and actually see the footprints of where some people had been walking recently.

 

I WANT a thermal camera! All the things you could... do with it!!! Glad the case work as expected. You say they don´t come cheap, well how expensive are they?

 

Yes these cameras are really fun. This is the "cheap" version and I think this one is around 2000$. And the resoultion is something like 100x100 pixels or something like that. But you can probably get them as expensive as you like

 

Best temperatures update I've ever seen in modding, usually screenshots of software.

Nice pictures, and these temps are actually very nice for a passively cooled system

Hahaha lol no I actually didn't think of doing that. The closest I was to "cheapskate themed" shots was when I was studying the intensity of my coworkers thermal buttprints on their chairs to see witch one of them had been away for lunch the longest. Pretty interesting and usefull actually. If I ever become a boss, I will definetly get me one of these to monitor my employees brake habbits.

I found this thread ~2h ago, went thru all 54 pages, all my conclusion is that this case and effort is ridicilous.

You my man, are awesome! I work as a machinist/miller(?) and seeing this coming out of an old "handvevad"* machine almost made me shed tears of joy.

I meen, I'd hire you on the spot no questions asked!

Im glad you found it and that you went through it all Getting a comment like this from someone who actually use machines for a living is really apreciated. This has kind of been my learning project on manuall mills and I learnt a lot during this time, especially regarding the process of workholding and trying to find new ways to use the mill.

A small status update on the project: It has found a temporary and comfy place right next to the TV in the livingroom. Im currently halfway through the process of upgrading my media corner with new projector screen and surround setup. That will be it's final place next to the projector screen and I will update you with some in action video once it's all done.

Can't wait to play NES games on 90" with surround LOL
