Vice President of the NRA names Grand Theft Auto in his speech blaming video games for mass shooting like Sandy Hook shortly before they put the release date back. Coincidence or do you think they are removing content or adding some more to satirise the NRA?

I wouldn't imagine the speech affected things at all. The NRA have been the best publicists for GTA over the years and I doubt Rockstar give a hoot!

Also, the NRA are full of it anyway as they were busy releasing their own gun game last month claiming it was educational!

Just to throw it out there:

If they can keep it serious like the last one or similar to Red Dead, I'm all for it. Obviously it still has to have the Rockstar humour. I just don't want to see a theme park though like Saints Row.

I agree. Although Saints Row was fun, it is good (and deliberate) that it was positioned at the opposite end of the humour scale from the GTA series.

Having said that though, I would like to see some humour in there - it's always good to have a character who you can laugh at. I don't want to be running round slapping people with a giant ***** in GTAV though!

No, you probably get enough of that at those parties I've heard you like to frequent.

My comments was based on this article. GTA is very good at satirizing society and the NRA's outburst seems ripe for it.

It certainly would be interesting to see if Rockstar 'respond' to the NRA in GTAV - however, I don't think they need to really as the game itself is a response. The article you references alludes to this anyway.

Regardless of what the NRA think, there are millions of people who DON'T go nuts and start shooting people in the street after playing GTA (or any other game for that matter), however I would say that most of those that do (and it's dubious to make the link anyway) probably obtained a gun legally - this is the fact the NRA always gloss over.

As the article (and you) suggested, GTA games usually get it right when it comes to describing the world which is what makes them great games. I have always felt that everything was believable (although perhaps exaggerated) and utterly absorbing. Long may this continue!

Excellent post Jedra. :thumb: I do not think we give rockstar enough credit for the quality of their writing.

I really do hope GTA V stays for the ps3 or xbox and not future consoles.
