Hey guys, I currently have two monitors connected to my laptop (Dell L502X), one being the normal built-in monitor, the other being my 23" LG. I have it so my desktop is extended over both so I tend to have websites/music open on the laptop and work etc on the big screen. What it is currently lacking is a start bar on the laptop screen. As the external monitor is monitor 1 it gets the start bar etc. This is fine but sometimes I do want a start bar on the other. Just wondered what my options were? Cheers guys Matt
Win 8 does it automatically? Even better. Pal got my W8 for xmas just haven't got round to doing it yet! +rep for you sir, saving me some monies!
Get windows 8 on you won't be disappointed. If you require a start menu then google startmenu8 and click the one that says iobit I think that's its name...its free and basically the same as the paid for one (i own a paid for one)
You don't need a start menu... the start screen is really good. The default layout of tiles is stupid on the desktop/laptop, but once you clean it up, and add needed folders and stuff (example: http://www.helpweaver.com/dss.png), you are perfect on your way in enjoying Windows 8, and you'll be like many who prefer ti over the start menu. So it's just a question spending some time to get to know the start screen
Cheers guys, just done a full back up off my laptop now, will get windows 8 on after football finishes
GB, have you seen oblytile ? http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/oblytile-adds-life-to-your-windows-modern-ui/ Would certainly improve your start screen even further .
Its a cracking piece of software, fellow forum user Loftie linked me to it when I was setting up Win8 on a new build for my uncle, certainly makes the start menu look a lot prettier ! Really easy to use too . Think GB needs to have a look, his start screen is nicely organised but could look a million times better with obly tile.
I had issues with it last time I used it not creating the tiles on the menu, so needs a bit of fiddling. Got it to work in the end
Never had a problem with it, its obviously down to the user. Loftie isn't the brightest bulb in the box, more like a faulty energy saver.
Hey hey hey Mr Incandescent, just because you don't understand/use the Start Screen, don't bring me down to your level. Modd you're not on my level, just go back to using a typewriter. On topic, there are some picture packs on Deviant Art, here's another site I got a fair few pics http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=497663 The other thing I noticed, when I used it most recently to do Office you have to remove the original start menu shortcuts, otherwise if you search for say Word you get the original Word and the new Word being displayed.
Hadn't come across that yet, been waiting for something like this. Gonna give it a go now. Edit. Anyone know how to make a shortcut to 'computer' (my computer), the path in the default shortcut is simply 'Computer', but putting this in as the path under OblyTile doesn't work?
This was the issue I was having, can you create any other tiles? Edit: There's a premade Computer Tile available in Obly
Yeah, no problem. The issue with trying to link to My Computer is that there is no real path in windows to it from what I can see. I'm sure I remember having this problem in the past with Rainmeter or YZ Dock, but can't remember the solution now.
Yea I just tested with the predefined one, works fine. If you haven't discovered it Open Tile Manager > Quick List Or if you want to just copy what they did, Under Program Path C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe and underneath that for Program Arguments put shell:::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
