I've been considering adding another 680 to my system, but am a little unsure of whether this would warrant a PSU upgrade as well. I'm currently using a Corsair HX650 which is getting on for a few years old now. All the other components would remain the same, namely: i5 2500k OC'd to 4.2GHz 3 x HDDs 1 x SSD 4 fans and 1 H60 for cooling My gut feeling is that it would be cutting it a little close, but that's not a very scientific way of deciding whether I need a new PSU or not. I'm not using any of those PSU calculator sites either as I know they're a load of rubbish. Any thoughts?
You could just get away with a 650w PSU but you might be pushing it to its limit. I'd go for either a 750-850w Corsair AX units
Or as mm vr has said and get a power meter (which is what I need to get), and see how much the rig is really pulling power wise might even save you a few bob
680 sli on system you linked will be fine on that system. I run a similar setup but with an older higher watt CPU ( i7950) Below 400 watts in most games. 510-530 benching.
Ah screw it, I think I'll just grab myself of the 750W/850W platinum PSUs to be on the safe side The HX650 is the only thing I haven't bothered to update over the last few years, so I guess it's due an upgrade anyway.
Yup, but since they're the only component in my system that I can see lasting the next 7-8 years, I see it as a worthwhile investment
Worthwhile having a look at the range Enermax offer; really stupendous PSUs! In truth I'm very very underwhelmed with my (third!) Corsair AX850, it has been so much trouble with two failures thus far.
