Unfortunately the release date came just as I was taking over the reigns and just as Joe was leaving so it slipped through the net.

I'd consider us doing a full review if there were still a reasonable number of you actually wanted to hear our thoughts. Quick show of hands?

Yes please. I didn't even know it was 'Crysis 3 time' until I saw this article.

Yes nonsense. It totally depends on the game, some games have almost 0% overhead, some may have loads, so you coming out and saying 'easily 100%' performance boost, is utter, unadulterated nonsense. You are literally just pulling figures out of the air.

By ahead of most PCs they meant the 85% of the PC market that has no real interest in playing games, not gaming machines.

If you are expecting a huge leap in console gaming this upcoming gen you need to look in other places than pure power. Any low end gaming PC bought today will be more powerful than either next gen console.

A 7850 married to a i5 is the level I'd expect to need to run the next gen comfortably, and I'd also imagine that since both console platforms have switched to an AMD powered PC architecture that PC ports will be far better optimised than was previously the case.

It varies hugely, yes, and it's not just by game it's different for various elements of a game engine. The problem is with the rushed ports for PC being badly coded, not with DirectX itself, which I understand is rarely used to its full potential.

That isn't how I'd read it. Comparing PC HW with console HW doesn't work. You may find:

    and

    interesting.

Its not a question of reading it in a particular way? The hardware is known and so are its capabilities.

And I should say that the second article you linked to might be the single worst written technology article I've ever seen, and I was around near the beginning of Anandtech.

There's no mystical magic going on in PS4. It'll have a similar amount of RAM to a low end gaming PC, a much weaker processor and a weaker graphics solution. Devs being able to code specifically around those limitations because the hardware is uniform doesn't make them strengths.

For the love of cheese, keep up, Tom!

I was referring to Aliens: Colonial Marines, obviously.
