We went easy tonight, I did berm baby berm a few times (maybe 5), then the last bit of the red run, then in the dark the blue run and the last bit if the red again. We also have several beers on board. Tomorrow is spooky woods and more, I want to be riding by 8, we are leaving around 5 I think.

I used to ride alone until a while back and came off lost all the skin off my arm and leg & had to ride home bleeding everywhere so my misses could drive me to A&E, now I try and go with friends.

I would say depends where you go, solo riding is also very dull its always better in a group.

I do quite a bit of cross country riding on my own, the DH places I always go with a mate. As mentioned, it is boring riding on your own!

I like riding either alone or with mates, weirdly i tend to push myself more when im on my own. Ill admit when im tackling a hill i tend to give myself a little pep talk on the way up positive words etc im weird like that but it seems to help.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll do some road cycling on my singlespeed alone to work back my fitness. I know my mates wouldn't mind me holding them back, but I'd feel a little bad.

Nice. Looks like good fun and nice looking bikes.

I was also out today, the weather was great for it.

Took my friend out for a training ride, and she really liked it.

Did you do Spooky wood? GT is fantastic though it is a bit knackered in places, the "braking bumps" on Pennels Vennel as so deep and its hard to control with the hard tail.

Top one is the view from spooky woods, we rode the short cut to the top, one of the lads rode the whole thing which was very impressive. It's the first time I've done Glentress so I just took my time and enjoyed myself. Cracking weekend though.

Has anyone come across a back-of-car mounting system that's not going to mince the paintwork on my boot lid by any chance? Temporary use (i.e. on the day only), for short-medium journeys.

No tow-hitch or roof-rack to leverage here.

I have an on the back thing like that, but even with extra pipe insulation foam I've managed to chip the paint off the top of my bumper which I think came from the pedal. For short journeys it ended up being too much of a pita to fit so ive ditched it and now just take the front wheel off the bike and stick it in the boot.

Sadly, that perches itself right in the middle of the bootlid :/

Good to know I'm not just paranoid (though not good to know that you chipped your bumper)

    You've got a 2013 7 series 4 door I believe?

They think that will fit as it sits over the ridge.

I do indeed. Whilst it will fit, and work fine from the bike's point of view, as with every other mount I've come across so far, the pads sit directly on the paintwork.

This might be fine for one use, or maybe two or more still, but sooner or later, the contact points are going to scratch and wear, leading to scratched/matted bits on the paintwork, which would make me cry.

Hmmm I see your point on that one.

I don't think you're going to get anything in that case, as this is one of the best designs I've seen, but I'm not the master of this.

What about a solo, and putting that on the rear window? The question would be height of the bike once on there.

I think that really, if you're not happy with the bones you're not going to be happy with much else on the market unfortunately.

I'm getting a dead link there, but assuming you mean the Saris Solo - but on the window? My google-fu isn't turning anything up other than the boot-mount.

I can get with a window mount, if that's available (seasucker started to look promising, but all of them seem to rely on some form of attachment to the body work)
