The rep system is pretty pointless, my biggest jumps (the one to rep cheat) were when I made a post saying the rep system was pointless just to really rub it in
It wasnt pointless until it got abused by circle repping threads. There were a few of us who built up rep by helping others out, or being a good marketplace seller/buyer and purposely not posting in rep threads. I agree its never been perfect, but its a lot worse now!
Rep is meaningless especially in the MP I would never let some ones rep sway me either way as we have seen everyone is a good seller till they decide not to be, no exceptions
I wont disagree with you there teel. But i do think it can be used in conjunction with other factors. (it just shouldnt form part of your make or break decision) Member since, recent activity, problem sales group, previous sales feedback etc etc. Rep is only a small part of the equation. I got ripped of by a long standing member, with a good rep, good previous sales feedback, lots of helpful and constructive posts. But it just turned out the guy was leaving the country and thought he would do someone over! So it just goes to show you can never be too careful.

I've spent the last 25 years buying and selling it's how I earn my living not for the tiny sums of money you see in the MP one thing I've learned is every transaction is a risk regardless of who it is.
The rep system is more of an in-joke these days, like Relix and Cheesecake. Leave it be for the lols.
The rep system will always been meaningless on here because it's entirely subjective and operates on a compound methodology - the more you get the more you can give. Frankly anyone using it to make judgements on the reliability/reputation/... of another member should book a private appointment with Nexxo immediately If you have to have a system, the "thanks" system some other forums operate seems much better. You're thanking someone for something, whether it helped, was informative, made you laugh or cry. It is one thank per post, regardless of how many times you yourself have been thanked.
Which is still meaningless in regards to the person being honest or not. I think the thank system is a bit sycophantic not even sure why but just feels that way

I know what you're saying Carrie, but I can't see this happening. I'm not an expert, but I assume it would require paying someone to write some code or install an add on to system and given that the mods can't get someone in to write some code to block spam accounts this is unlikely to happen. Or would be way down on the list.
