I'm all for ending the rep system. From what I've seen very little comes from serious discussion or modding forims. Most comes from humorous comments or rep threads. Just like real life you have to get to know people by seeing how they act or react. I think our vacuous fame obsessed media is a good example of how little the level fame says about a person's character.
I think rep is harmless, if you've got none then you moan how useless it is, if you've got loads your just love spreading the love.
My rep bar hasn't actually moved graphically for about a million years, but knowing that a slightly higher proportion of it is undeserved still makes my teeth grind. It is possible to redact and reset rep counts, isn't it? I've heard of mods doing it. I'm sure nexxo would be happy to oblige, I'm giving him nothing but grief over Windows 8 at the moment anyway...

Mine recently switched to saying something about Bindi's hammer, which is nice I suppose. But it breaks my heart that I've gotten four times more rep from this thread than I did from the thread currently closest to my heart and my ITX gaming build log combined. But I guess that's how it goes with rep.
The top rep hoarders will give you nearly 50,000 points in a single hit these days. I won't rep anyway, but even if I did your score wouldn't budge, which in itself sort of removes the purpose. It really needs switching off, resetting or replacing, none of which will actually happen whatever we say so we're wasting words. I believe that the easiest solution in the short term would simply be to remove the display of the bar and associated comment, then people could continue collecting to their heart's content with zero publicity. I've had a bit of fun with it but some people take it a touch too seriously sometimes
If you hate being repped for nonsense the last thing you should do is go into one of these threads complaining about rep. Someone is bound to end up repping you. By the way it wasn't me. I think you need to relax about it. But if you feel so strongly you can pm a mod and ask them to reset your score to zero or go red like shirty. Obviously you would need to give them time to do it, although it doesn't take long. But I can't see them doing it if everyone starts asking, as they've got enough to do.
