Motors Washed key fob!!!

I know... how on earth I managed to wash my key fob.... but I did...

Came back from a beach trip, left it in my shorts, threw it in the washing machine...
I haven't used it. What I did is I put it in a bag of rice last night, will see if it absorbs the moist.

Do you have any helpful hints how to make it work?
Well, I don't know if it works or not, haven't tried it yet, but I believe it doesn't for now.

I have a spare, but need the second one too.
It's BMW E90, doesn't have this "comfort access", looks like this:

Take lube when you go to the dealers for a new key.

 

if it's not working, you could open it up and clean the circuits with meths - just make sure to mop up any residue. That'll drive the water out. Just have to hope that no components are fried.

 

as with all wet electronics leave it somewhere warm to completely dry out before testing it.

 

How much it's gonna hurt?

 

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do now - left it in bag of rice first for 24hr.
Then will use hair dryer... then will test it....

 

I have a feeling it will be over £100

 

Think you will be looking at £120 + VAT for a new key.

You may want some cream for the after-burn.

£120+VAT + KY cream... I'll be prepared...

 

I think it'll be closer to £200incVAT on one of those newer keys. Diamond shape BMW keys in 2011 were £160incVAT.

Try going on BMWland.co.uk - you might find a dealer willing to give you a discount. You'll need to go to the dealer with photo ID and the V5 though to prove you aren't nicking a car...

And don't use a hair dryer if I were you.

 

Erm they are meant to be water proof you know

 

Dit you take the battery out?
Actually take it as far apart as possible, then dry it.
Shouldn't be fried, just wet.

 

A work colleague has just done something similar (also a BMW owner).

Whilst giving her the same advice dispensed above, our research revealed that the fob is glued together & recharges wirelessly when slotted into the dash.

 

If you have a tumble dryer, place it on top while its on a high heat cycle..... fixed the Missus iPhone after a trip down to loo!
