I think I remember a news report about that from a while back- turned out the guy had a big metal brace behind the door ( against the wall ) to prevent it just being smashed open...

In an apartment building the walls between units should be solid concrete/concrete filled block to stop fire propagation.

And? Big door hammer and a big bar will soon take care of block as long as it's not poured concrete...

The thing is though, it's not always choice... http://www.businessinsider.com/kentucky-child-kills-sister-with-gun-2013-5

Also if someone has a gun, they are more likely to use just because they are raging.... http://abcnews.go.com/US/suspect-sought-alleged-fatal-florida-road-rage-shooting/story?id=19536857

Carrying a deadly weapon of any kind is almost never a good idea in non-hostile environments, as it may lead you to use it where there is no actual need.

Guns don't kill people by themselves, but if a person carries one or has one at home they are more likely to use deadly force than otherwise.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States#Violent_crime_related_to_guns

Stay safe, stay the **** away from guns.

Not shown in that study is that for the 30,000 or so deaths each year due to guns, there are 200,000 due to medical malpractice. The problem is still not like the media paints it. More gun violence happens in inner cities, in poorer areas. There's plenty of it in cities that have outlawed gun ownership.

Violence of any kind is going to be an issue until our social support system is better. But there will always be those interested in taking a life, because we're just really poorly wired, for the most part.
