No sympathy for the parents, couldn't even follow the first rule of firearms, such is life.

Most Americans I know were mortified when they heard that. Every gun owner I've ever met was embarrassed to hear it. That is NOT typical of gun ownership here, even in the rural South we don't play like that. I group that into the same category as I do for dogs that shoot their owners-stuff that just doesn't happen very often. Close to never, really. In most areas, gun locks are the law, and we all supported making it so. Kid can't do anything with a locked gun except hit someone with it. Most all people that I know that have kids and guns have locked gun cabinets as well as locked guns and ammo stored separately. People are painting with far too wide of strokes here. But then again, hating on America is popular right now.

 

Fair point, but the very existence of My First Rifles is indicative of guns as toys attitude that seems common in the US and utterly alien and horrifying to the rest of us. From here it's like something Terry Gilliam would write.

 

I understand that out of 350 million people or so, bad things will happen, regardless of nationality, but surely you must agree that guns breed guns and that guns really are a part of a problem in the US. Had an american friend who told me once, that the US is the greatest and worst country in the world, because for all the great things there, equally many bad things exist. Haven't been so can't judge, but numbers and statistics paint a pretty large problem, such as the highest % of people imprisoned of I think all countries in the world or something close to it. It's so weird seeing that looking in from here, because it really seems that if you guys wanted to, you could easily solve all or most of your problems, but its like you don't want too... like every man for himself kinda attitude, when it doesn't apply anymore... but just my o...

Absolutely. Sadly I have a fine line between sounding like I'm joking or not when things are annoying me outside of the internet. It's a horrible thing to read and I do think the parents are to blame here. Whether having a gun at that age is considered normal or not in Kentucky, it shouldn't happen.

 

Shall we add guns to religion, as things that the demot thread does not need more of?
