http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q6600-vs-Intel-Core-i3-3220 But I'm not sure the results tell the whole story. The single threaded results are too close to the overall performance results. I'd have thought that the difference in architecture coupled with the MHz difference would have given much higher single threaded results Edit: ahh that's more like it
I went from a qx6850 on an Asus p5k deluxe WiFi to an Intel core i7-3770 on an asrock board, can't remember the exact model at mo, but the scores were on the new 3d mark
That would explain it, newer Intel CPU's can push graphics cards harder. The newer i5 I upgraded my brother's machine to makes some games run 20-25% faster at stock than my i5-750 overclocked by 1GHz. We both use identical graphics cards.
I got a really old (2nd week batch G0) Q6600 running at 3.6, coming from 8800GTS into 660Ti, and the difference is quite mind-blowing. what used to be a stuttery mess (25 - 35FPS) on the latest title on medium graphics @1680x1050, now runs buttery smooth (50+FPS) on high/ultra high. yeah, it's damn workhorse. will keep it until next year at the least. Just don't have the budget for a new i5 plus board with 8Gb of RAM...
But I was on Far Cry 3 last night and start cranking up every single settings at 1680x1050 (except the HDAO stuff...whatever that is), and it's smooth 95% of the time. The 5%... sometimes things get really hectic and it got blurry and FPS seems to dropped a bit. Was worried if it's my Q6600 keeping up with the physics or not... Other than that though, it's jolly. I didn't even OC it that much. Just +100mhz here and there.
