Have you ever played Skyrim? If you have, then you've seen what the Dwemer race is capable of. They are an ancient lost race of elves who built machines and robots out of copper that were powered by steam.

Makes you wonder, if Dwemer's ever got around to building PC's. What would they look like? Edit Text

"A race of stonecutters, artisans, and engineers. They invented machines and built elaborate underground cities where they researched powers to rival the gods themselves. And then, at a time we are still not sure when, they disappeared. The whole people, all at once. Leaving behind only their works." - Calcelmo

I've been wanting to do my own Prodigy case mod for the last 6 to 8 months at least. I will be converting it to mATX too, and I know I'm not the first to do this.

Regardless, I need to do my own version!

I like the footprint, but hate this case

I removed everything that can be taken off with a screwdriver

Then about ten rivets to remove the drive cage

    I need an mATX frame.....

Next to the Asus Vento, this is the ugliest case. Although it is only $13!

Besides the frame, I get a crappy 230 Watt PSU for testing cathodes and fans

    Here's what I needed

I'll be putting the motherboard in the middle of the case and the PSU behind the motherboard tray. I'm also pushing it against the rear of the case, so I can fit a 200mm high air flow fan as an intake

The case came with a handy PSU back plate which lets me plan out where it will go

Here's the 200mm NZXT fan I'm going to use. It moves 160 cfm's!

I'm going to be putting mesh over the top of the fan, so the mesh that's there now has to go!

The back plate and PSU holes get cut out too

    I'll be adding Bondo soon

I wanted to see how it looked, so I put a power supply in

This is not going to be the back anymore and it's got to go

    Here's the mesh I'm using

But I have to cut it to size

    And neatly cut the edges

Haven't played skyrim, but a quick google shows that that race has enough distinct features to make a great case :) Very curious what you will make of it!

And you should really keep a 'mod counter' in your signature if you ask me :p

    @Azariel - There's a text limit on signatures.:lol:
I don't think it counts as a prodigy mod if you discard everything but the basic frame dimensions.
$13 + a power supply? China doesn't have a word for "metal foil" do they?

Don't let it, my wife has one and I'll never touch another one. It's crap. It took so much modding just to put in a power supply that was decent that I could never recommend it again, not even for modding.

    I can't find it

That's why I don't have "Prodigy" in the title

I put a crappy dead board in so I get the measurements right

    Like this exhaust fan.

The fan grill is just to measure out the hole

No Dwemer construction is complete till you add copper

So, I picked up this 5 foot piece of copper

And cut out two pieces for the bottom of the case

I also picked up some elbows and t-sections

I pieced together an "H" to start

Now that it's set on the bottom of the case, I know it needs to be a little taller. I want it to lift the case about two inches off the surface it sits on just like the previous feet did

I'm not sure yet, but I may use this shower drain as a fan grill

    I picked up four dowels

    and candlestick holders

First I drilled out the candlestick holders

Then I ran a threaded rod through the holders into the rod

Then taped it so the glue could dry evenly

Dwarves. Not elves. Ancient lost race of dwarves.

    Copper piping for the win.

Technically the Dwemer were an elven race, like wood elves, dark elves, high elves and Orcs; they all descended from a common ancestor.

While they dry, I mark and drill holes for them

The dowels are all dry now

Now it's time to add them to the case

The 2nd one needed to be stripped down too

Then dropped it on top of the pillars!

    Then secured it with bolts

It will need a bog fan too

But first they both need to match the theme

    I painted the pillars copper

Then I started to rock out the case....

I picked some hydrocal and rock molds

And after hours of screw-ups and dry time, I made quite a few molds. They're heavier than I expected they would be

Here's a sharpie next to it so you can see how thick they are

At this point it's OK to mount the top case

Now that the first coat of paint has dried on the rocky panel

I can start planning where the copper pies go. More rock coming too!

This is really cool. It kind of reminds me of making scenery for my train track :)

Good going dude. I always like it when people do game tribute builds. One day I'll finally do a Fallout 3 build :)
