How could I´ve missed this??? A new Falzone build! You are such an inspiration... All that woodworking of yours is mindblowing. The Chiaroscuro piece is one of the best looking cases out there IMO. Looking forward to this!

Im back with another update and amazingly its been less than a few months since the last one :D First up, I have been playing with materials for the front panels. Im not sure if I am going to do black or silver, brushed or polished but that is something I have to figure out. I have brushed aluminum galore though thanks to AC Ryan:

And now more work on the doors. This piece eases the transition from the outer shell to the window as well as covers up some of the stuff on the inside that isnt quite as pretty. I originally wanted to do this in maple but it was too monolithic so I decided on wenge instead.

First I did a mockup to determine the best size:

And then I cut the real thing on the bandsaw:

They are fairly rough so I need to smooth them. The best tool for this is a good sized hand plane:

    All smooth:

And now to cut them to length. I first clamps up the doors to make sure everything is snug:

The door mocked up after cutting:

    And the case so far:

That's it for now. I just received my aluminum for the case chassis so that will be coming up soon. Thanks for reading.

Beautiful work, you make me miss wood (and then I remember both how hard Mithril really was and how bad my hands have gotten.) Watching you do it, however, is still amazing.

    Great looking progress!

little off, but is that a Veritas low angle jack? Do you like it? I've been thinking about getting a low angle jack... and since Stanley 164s are quite out of reach... Was looking at the Veritas, or the Lie-Nielsen... Just curious (sorry for OT)

A saw called Adria..reminds of a weapon called Vera... :D

I just got excited to see some wooden porn again! Hope this is not dead! Chiaroscuro made me stick to bit-tech in the first place and to this day my scratch-build dreams often feature ideas that I got off one of your mods, greensabbath!

Hope to see moar progress, soon as well! (You had 7 months to recuperate, that's plenty imho :p )

Life got in the way of this one but things have cleared up, I got married, and I have the modding bug again. Also, many thanks to Bindibadgi, ASUS, ACRyan, and Silverstone for their patience. This one is for you guys.

I don't have any pictures yet but you can expect some soon. I promise.

    An Update! 8.26.2016

It has been so long since I have worked on this case that I am not sure what I was doing or where I left off so it has been fun trying to figure that out. I tend to do too much thinking about what to do and not enough doing so I dived head first and started cutting metal.

First off, this project would not be possible without Silverstone who are providing an awesome power supply and the fans:

The fans are large 180mm and will take up the entire bottom of the case:

There is only a couple millimeters on each side:

I have been mocking up the internals of the case out of old parts and mock ups. Basically the harddrives and other lighting/fan controllers will be on the left side with the powersupply on the right and most wiring will be in the back:

The floor of the case will be made of aluminum but I need to mock it up and make a template first. To cut big holes, you need a big circle cutter:

    And in the case:

Time to turn wood into aluminum. In this case I will be using 1/4 inch aluminum for much of the case parts. Here are the front and back panels cut to width but not length:

It is good to make accurate mock ups because they can double as templates.

I used a router table and flush trim bit with the template to make accurate holes in the aluminum floor:

And a chamfer bit will make the edges cleaner:

    Inside the case looking clean:

The back panel is cut to length and width and covered with tape to reduce scratching:

This is as the case stands right now:

Next up, I need to order some more screws to start putting the case together. I have brushed aluminum panels that will go on the front and back and I am thinking I will polish up the aluminum on the inside. Thanks for reading.
