    I posted this on imgur and the comments are making me shake my head. For some reason, United Statians don't like having this pointed out to them.

    Also known as 'Dumb-f*ckistanis'. :D

    The problem with that picture ( besides the spelling error... ), is that it's actually 'The United States of America', not just 'United States'; pay close attention to the 'America' bit and suddenly you understand ( hopefully ) why they call themselves 'American' ( also because both continents are referred to as 'The Americas', hence, American... ).

    Nice try though, but no dice...

    Yeah I don't buy it either, one of the first comments nails it with the European thing. That picture actually proves why they can call themselves Americans...

    Bless your delicate sensibilities.
    This may come as a surprise, but most people don't dress to please you. We also live in a largely free society. So rather than telling people what they should and shouldn't be able to wear, next time you see someone wearing something that disgusts you they should be able to get on with it and you should:

    I don't have any problem with it, but then, would you want people staring at you because you look ridiculous?...

    I don't know if this has been said and it's been a lot of years since I did Geography in school but America isn't a continent, both North and South make up their own continent, or at least that's what I was taught.

    This is my point also. So you're fat, so you don't care. Thats great, just don't expect me to leave the house with you if you look like a moose knuckle in suede.

    Anyone can look nice if they put the effort in, look at Gok Wan (I'm quite a fan).

    No. But then I don't expect what is normal for me to be normal for someone else. And I think staring is rude :)

    I don't have a problem with walruses wrapped in lycra (as my avatar neatly demonstrates), but it doesn't stop it from looking minging. But as you say it's possible to avert your eyes... or is it ? :worried:

    :jawdrop: ----> :jawdrop:

    and I'm going :rock: shes wants it (quietly)

    Boobs are like the sun, potentially dangerous to look at but given the right glasses, you can stare as much as you want.

    I disagree, it has nothing to do with this. When you ask for my nationality, I'll answer that I'm a Belgian - not a European. When you ask someone from the USA what his nationality is, he'll probably answer American.
    While the word “American” may be perfectly valid to say that they live within the continent of (North) America, that's completely besides the point. It's simply not an answer to the question of which country they live in.
    In the same sense one might argue that “Earthling” is a good way to describe their nationality. (which is obviously nonsense)

    Still, I'm actually perfectly fine with people from the USA calling themselves “Americans”, because everyone understands it anyway (even though it makes little sense when you think about it). I just wanted to point out that this particular argument is BS…
