Does it? - In 5 years of Sonos ownership, I've never actually used the aux input on the Play:5s or the Connects...
Thanks for the link Lance - I'll give it a look-see later As for the lack of input - all my music is stored on my server which is always on (whilst I'm awake anyway) and so I'd never actually need to plug anything into it... (I know that suggestion wasn't aimed at me but I thought I'd reply anyway )
Yep - it's a 3.5mm TRS jack on the Play:5 and a pair of RCAs on the Connects. I use them rarely, but they're useful. A bit redundant now you can play directly from an iPhone/iPad music collection.
I've always liked the idea of running my TV sound through it. I have a set of speakers in the bathroom and if I'm watching TV I turn the sound on in there (not sonos yet). The OH listens to Xfactor in the bath sometimes on it. What I have ATM is: Bedroom: Sonos Play 3 Mainroom: Onkyo 608 with 2nd out going to the bathroom via CAT6 converters. What I want. Bedroom: Sonos Play 3 Mainroom: Onkyo 608 Sonos connect: Sonos connect out: The amp's input The AMP's zone 2: Sonos connect in & the bathroom via distribution amplifier. (So I can have the AMP (xbox/TV/PC etc) playing in the bathroom and the bedroom etc) Play 1 in kitchen part of the room Office: Play:1
*Onkyo 608 fistbump* I've got: Connect -> 608 in the lounge Connect: Amp -> Acoustimass 4 in the kitchen/diner Connect: Amp -> Cambridge Audio Minx in the bedroom (almost - just need to wire in the speakers) Play:5 in the office (almost - it's still in the bedroom) I'd like a Connect:Amp for the bathroom and a Play:1 for the spare room/as a floating unit. One day...
Nice setup. How big is your place? Mines a two bed flat. Good luck george, sorry for the thread overload. Sonos gets me a little excited.
It's a 3 bed house. More space than we need to be honest, but it's nice and we're settled (and I can fill it with fun things like Sonos)...
A Connect:Amp in the loft and in-ceiling speakers in the master ensuite has always been one of those projects I've had on the list, but never got to. In a practical sense, it's probably not great use of the best part of a grand, which is probably why it's not been done yet.
There's the problem, and I don't want to do it on the cheap, so I'll stick with the DAB radio in the bathroom for now I think. If only the Play:1 were battery-operated.
No problems! It's good actually to hear your setups so I can have a think about mine more clearly I originally thought that but then I think (a) how often would I use it not on the mains and (b) how quickly would it chomp through battery life maintaining, and streaming through, a wireless connection...
Final question (I think!) - has anyone ever had anything go wrong with these? Would you suggest paying Richer Sounds an extra 10% for a 5 year warranty?
That's a very good point! Thus far, I've never had an issue. I've had my oldest component for three years, IIRC. It might be four!
I have 2x Connects, 3x Play:5s and a bridge, the oldest of which is 5 years, newest is 2 years, and yet to have even the slightest hiccup. I wouldn't bother with the extended warranty - if something was going to die I'd expect it to do so in the first 12 months (he says as all of his Sonos components immediately go up in flames)
Well took the plunge today - two Play:1s and two free bridges now sat across the room Not home until Thursday so I'll have to refrain until then to try them out but listening to them in the store they're fantastic quality On the recommendation of the chap in Richer Sounds Norwich I'll be hanging onto the second bridge for a little while before putting one of them on the bay - apparently last year Sonos did a similar offer and people couldn't give the bridges away for a couple of months until there was a shortage after Christmas and then prices recovered a bit.... Thanks for all the advice chaps
Wahoo - enjoy! (I might be in the market for a bridge actually - I feel a network re-shuffle on the horizon)
I am trying to get my greedy little mits on a Play:1 atm. Credit card is burning a hole in my pocket.
Credit Card? What black magic is this that you speak of? LOL I am very strict with my self when is comes to Tech. "Never buy on credit something that is already outdated by the time its released to the public."
I bought a new tv last week and couldn't believe how poor the speakers are in these new sets. I decided on buying a sound bar. So at lunchtime today off I went to Richer sounds to spend about £200 on a sound bar. While there I listened to the Sonos Play Bar and OMG I'm sold. I want one!!! http://www.sonos.com/shop/products/playbar I just need to persuade the wife now that we should spend 3 times as much. I also want to add a couple of play 1's for surround sound.
