There's a guy in Edinburgh who specialises in old SGI kit, he has many of their alps boards and doesn't ask a huge price. Now sure how standard the layout on them is though.

Layout is the biggest thing that has stopped me from having any Alps keyboard. On those that don't have a super poor layout they are either massive space wasters like Dell/SGI 101 or very hard to locate like the ABS M1, Leopold FC200RTA or have poor build quality like Ducky XM. Kit boards solve the layout and aesthetics problems, but you still are left trying to find any sort of decent keycaps for them. The other issue is there are so many kinds of Alps and Alps alike switches that don't seem to have much coherent on what type they are. I see that same colors are often used for different linear/tactile/click type switch with several different force levels... I just don't want to take the effort to sort it out.

So what you're saying is someone should approach SP about producing basic alps compatible double shots that would fit some standard layout which the available pcbs also support, say to match a basic g80-3000 or poker, then go from there?

I think they do make ALPs caps, but, small MOQ = very expensive, if you just want 1 set of some caps, it's SO much money, 5 sets of an 87 cap set is still $200 per set.

Yes SP does make Alps keycap. There is also Tai Hao. Problem is making MOQ to get a good prices within small userbase that wants Alps caps. At same time too many people are avoiding Alps since they know they can't get good keycap. Catch 22.

Whatever they're releasing is in just a couple of hours, and they now have a TKL topshell listed on the site. I'm interest!

If so: they have my money!

Even better would be a Endura SSK... but I gather they don't have access to the improved trackpoints, so maybe not such a good idea after all.

Now to start dreaming about which colour of SSK I'd go for if it happens...

Well, it's not an SSK. I think there are a few disappointed people over on GH now!

Indeed. They seem to have a staggeringly bad understanding of who their customers are and what they want.

Shame, but ironically, my SSKs arrived today! The box is very, very heavy...

Anyone here actually compared a HHKB Type S with one that's been dental band modded?
