The Wolf of Wall Street 8/10

Leo and Jonah Hill were amazing in this. Great film but a bit formulaic in parts, similar story telling to Casino or Goodfellas.

I found some bits a bit stupid and overblown though,
particularly the boat scene (which did actually happen apparently
    - the script isn't perfect.

Film of the year! Amazeballs. Ignore the science oversights because it's cinema and it's one of the best things I've watched. It won't win an Oscar, which is tragic, but I need to watch it again somewhere with big sound and a big screen. God I hope they re-release it on IMAX.

Watching it in IMAX 3D was incredible. Seriously blow-your-face-off-amazeballs.

Gravity feels like it was made to be watched in IMAX 3D, it was just that good and really showed what it was capable of. I was a sweaty, nervous wreck by the end of it :D

However I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed when I see it on the small screen now :/

    Time to get a 65" 4K TV!

Sorry but watching it on a 24-inch screen is just not the same as watching it on a 20 metre wide screen!

Yeah, but you're only sitting three feet away from that 24" monitor. Perspective, init?

Honestly, Gravity was made to be watched from close up so you have to explore the screen. That's certainly what I did the second time around when I watched it in IMAX. I was sat on about the 5th row.

Cinema is more than just a big screen though... it's immersive, the sound, the environment etc. In saying that, a decent pair of headphones and I'm more than happy with my 26" desktop experience.

Going to be watching Gravity tonight hopefully. :D

... The sticky floor, the sickly smell of stale popcorn, the person in front of you facebooking about watching the movie, and continually asking their friend "what was that?" because they were too busy facebooking about watching the movie. :wallbash:

    American Hustle - 7/10

I really wanted to like this more. A good film all round, though.

    Saving Mr Banks 8/10

I'm a sucker for everything Disney but this was about Disney but not by Disney. Emma Thompson is pure class and Tom Hanks puts in another great performance. A spoon full of sugar certainly does help the medicine go down ;)

    Captain Phillips - 7.9/10

Didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The climax was well done and immersive, but the film leading up to that was a bit boring and I don't see any rewatch value in it. Also, I don't know whether it was the tension or just a cold I've got but I got a headache watching it and can't ignore the impact that had in my score. It also just came across a bit too much "Amurca, **** yeh!", like a recruitment advert for US navy.

Nah, I've got Sandra Bullock down for best actress. 12 Years a Slave will almost definitely win best picture though.

Edit: Jesus, I've just noticed I've been here 10 years. Where's my present?

Crazy stupid love 10/10 Just so funny.

American hustle 7/10 Good film but left wanting more.

    Gangster squad 8/10
