What's more worrying is that the Koch brothers still have huge amounts of money left to pump into right-wing US politics :(

He retires. Gives 28 billion away and is still the richest man in the world. He literally can't give it away fast enough. Wow.

Still if he can a mass this sort of money from Microsoft. I can't but help think I've been over charged for my copy of Windows.

    :sigh: sadly, yes.

I hope Bill & Melinda keep going for a long time to come, and his 'new role' at MS doesn't take time away from his philanthropic efforts.

Meh, Microsoft is no worse than any other corporation these days. Until some other company produces an operating system that wows everyone away from Windows I can't argue with their pricing.

Bill on the other hand I can't be mad at any more. He might have been a **** at the peak of his powers, but he's already done more than enough to put that right and goddamn it he was a stoner student with vision.

He should be taxed at a rate of 99.8%

If you think that is unfair, he would still have 152 million dollars left.

I'm not sure that's how the whole capitalism/philanthropy thing works. It would just reduce the US national debt by 0.6%.

    $12,312,000,000,000 minus $76,000,000,000 is still £12,236,000,000,000.

Maybe you should be taxed at 99.8%? Penalising success and generosity is fun!

Or we could all not care sounds simple enough.

Bill gates would not even touch USAs national debet which stands at about 12 trillion dollars last I checked. His billions would be pocket change.

He does good charity work let it long continue.

It also not money. Worth and has as money are different things. He has pretty much all of that on paper, but its all just stock value. If/when he cashes it out, however, it is taxed. Also if/when it kicks the bucket, it'll all be taxed as posessions are taxed in inheritance, unless he creates one heck of a trust fund, which I doubt (and even then, a lot will be taxed going in or coming out of the trust fund).

At some point it will be taxed. Until the day it can possibly used as money, it just sits there as a fun figure on paper.
