5mm is definatally to thin to make this big size reservoir, 10mm would most likely be minimum. with some heat and pressure the 5mm plates will definatally deform.

 

Pressure is not an issue,7 psi is pretty weak, certainly not enough to blow anything out.

As this one is watertight,i think frosting or painting the back of the res to tidy it up should work well

This is why I'm so happy to be pissing around with a PC that costs less than the case you are using haha, as I can make mistakes and just chalk them down to a part of the charm.

Looking forward to seeing more. Like the res, looks really solid.

 

Frosting would look really great, would give it a lovely matte sheen.

 

Im inclined to agree,also im concerned about shooting a colour without a primer...which would show thru at the front. Frosting works on acrylic without damage.
What I should of done,but didnt trust myself not to splash solvent everywhere,was brush the faces first then fit them.....

Its not the end of the world tho,it will still do its intended task,I am like the guy that paints the feet of Airfix pilots tho,you wont see them but you will know they are there.

 

Looks good imo. Can't really see the issues with bubbles.

 

Can you apply a little more solvent in the seams? I know it helps sometimes, but often the air around the edges is common and not fixable. That's why I glue some billets oversize and mill out of the middle stuff.
Have you thought of making a set of panels to cover the edges?

 

Yeah,I tried that Cheaps,didnt work,its like a fine mesh of bubbles ...water doesnt penetrate,it just looks ugly.

Im going for a frosted finish instead,It will hide the bubbles like a boss but will still let the coolant peek thru.

 

In other news,the res has been filled to the brim and,in a unscientific test,left outside for 24 hrs in the sun so it gets heated and cooled for some thermal cycle testing.
Glad to say it didnt leak at all and I am happy for it to go in.

In other news.


Specialtech happy care package has arrived!



Something new for me,Acousti Acoustipack soundproofing sheets,never used them before and I like to try new things so I thought 'Why not?'

My eternal favorite,the D5 pump makes its appearance and its the XSPC vario like in my last build,they are so cheap now there is no reason not to get one.

And.....snake oil.....I couldnt find Ice Dragon in its normal form anywhere so im using this instead,


Now the sheets are self adhesive and that glue is a grabby as hell so be careful if you choose to use it too....

Im doing the sidepanels and front panels with it to dampen any panel rattle or noise from inside.

So,I lay the panel out,cut a sheet to size and then lay it in the panel,pushing the studs thru for the window.



Lay the window on top,cut round with a sharp xacto knife.



Then peel off the backing paper and stick down Job done and about half a kilo added to the door. This stuff is a 2 layer construction and weighs a ton!



I do often wonder how effective this things are,now i will know for sure.

 

Yeah I went with 3/8" (9.5mm) acrylic on my handmade res, it was definitely overkill, only leaks came from being a novice with the acrylic cement. Im going to go with 1/4"(6.35mm) acrylic on my current build but I am going to router grooves where the panels glue together for a better and stronger seam and no leaks. Nice work on this B NEG, I like this build a lot, great mods , cool color. Cant wait for a finished product =D Cheers!

 

I totally recommend routered edges and wicking solvent weld,it all becomes one with no interface bond layers
I finished frosting it and im happy with it now,i did derp a little and weld a piece the wrong way round tho I noticed....

Its so close too.....just some interior wiring and the long wait for my active backplate....which is holding me right up as the terminals are different.


A small update.

I clear coated the front and res and as you can see,removed the Caselabs logo as it didnt really look right with nothing on the ped..



And in direct light.

 

That first picture is really nice. Makes it kinda look gunmetal grey metallic with a glossy finish (if that makes any sense).
