    Edit: Solved

I'm trying to rewire my (Skullcandy Ink'd) earphones to a 3.5mm stereo jack, but can't work out what each wire is for.

There are 2 separate wires that run down, one from each earbud.
One contains red, green, copper and white wires.
The other contains blue and copper wires.

I'm not bothered about the mic / button.

    Looking on the internet implies...
    Green: left +
    Red: right +
Copper and blue: left - & right -
...but in my case, wouldn't that mean one bud is only connected to ground, with the other not being grounded at all?

That blob in the middle is like this. I'm assuming it's just to stop the wires pulling apart and that the wires stay separate throughout.

    Cheers

What was the original jack like?
If you cut it off yourself can you not identify the cables from the jack's pin-out and a multimeter/continuity tester?

my gut would go with green-copper for earphone red-white for mic and the mic button merely disconnects mic.

actually, try getting a multi-meter on the red and copper then white - copper press button in each case to see if it makes open loop

I suggest the mic and the switch use the same copper as the earphone

seen as how the other earphone is blue-copper.

    Using a continuity tester...

I can hear static in the left earphone if I put it across the blue and copper wires.
I can hear static in the right earphone if I put it across the red and green wires.

..but I can't get it to beep like usual.

Does this mean that blue is R+ and copper is R-
and Red and Green are L+ and L- ? (how do I know which is + and - ?)

EDIT: Just played with it until it worked:
    Blue: L+
    Copper: L-
    Green: R+
    Red R-
